The game of golf can be frustrating. But the way golfers deal with it makes the difference. For instance, Jordan Spieth. Despite his mishap on the 14th hole of the Genesis Invitational, he kept his promise and signed a fan’s bib. People praised his noble gesture. But not everyone is that calm. You must remember what happened with Adam Hadwin at the Valspar Championship.
He hoped to redeem himself after the first round of 71, but the opposite happened. He ended up making 76, which made him miss the cut. But, due to the frustration of the performance, while going back, he hit the club hard on the ground. And within seconds, he started regretting it. You see, instead of hitting grass, he had hit the sprinkler head, which led him to murmur an apology. His action went viral on social media, resulting in fans asking for his suspension. Jessica Hadwin barged in, that too in her classic humorous style. Now, days after the incident, the couple has made up for the mistake.
As per Ryan Stewart’s post on X, they paid for the sprinkler head and treated the staff to lunch. The caption read, “A big thank you to Adam Hadwin @jessicahadwin for paying for that sprinkler head and buying our staff lunch. That was a great touch, and our staff loved it. Thank you again.” Jessica Hadwin shared the news, in her style, and wrote, “Next we will make amends with that sprinkler .”

But, for the fact, Hadwin isn’t the only one who has faced embarrassment after his actions on the course. The 4x major winner has faced the same.
The Irish golfer’s frustration at the course
In the past, McIlroy has been under scrutiny for his actions. Back in 2024, during the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado. The Irishman wasn’t happy with his tee shot on the 17th hole. As a result, he did the unexpected. He threw his club into the water, making a visible splash. Then, McIlroy had to sheepishly walk over the the lake’s edge and fish his club out. He, then, immediately passed it to Harry Diamond, who tapped it down with a towel.
In 2015, he did the same with his 3-iron at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral in the second round. At the time, he was fined $5000. However, the fine was $25,000, but for his gesture and acceptace on the mistake it was reduced. Even McIlroy shared about it saying, “The fine was reduced from $25,000 to $5,000 because I said I was sorry in the TV interview afterward.”
