‘Play My Own…’: Rory McIlroy Vows to Ignore Scottie Scheffler After Escaping Missed Cut Threat

Rory McIlroy found himself in a tight spot at the Texas Houston Open, nearly missing the cut before his solid back nine performance on Friday saved the day. With the cut line set at 4 under par, McIlroy managed to make it through, but not without some nervous moments.

Reflecting when asked “Knowing where you are in the tournament, how far back you are from Scottie right now, what’s your mentality as you go into these last 36 holes?”, he said, “I think I just have to play my own tournament and stay in my own little world, try to get the best out of myself. Whether that’s good enough or not, that’s not really up to me at this point, that’s up to the guys that are in front of me on the leaderboard. But if I can go out there and shoot a couple of good scores over the weekend, I’ll be happy with my week’s work.”

Focused on his own game, McIlroy is looking ahead to the weekend, knowing that his performance is in his hands, while the leaderboard is out of his control. He’s ready to push forward and see where the weekend takes him.

This is a developing story..
