President Donald Trump Clears Stance on Travis Kelce and Maintains Strong Demand From NFL

History-chasing games call for history-making moments. And Super Bowl LIX? It might just deliver one before kickoff. No sitting U.S. president has ever attended a Super Bowl. Ever. But this year? Donald Trump says he’ll be there—front and center—to watch Patrick Mahomes chase a 3-peat.

Let’s rewind to February 2020—Super Bowl LIV. Chiefs vs. 49ers. A battle that saw Kansas City storm back late and hoist the Lombardi. Trump, like many, was impressed. He wanted to send his congratulations, and, well, that’s when things got awkward. His now-infamous tweet praised the Chiefs for representing “the Great State of Kansas.” Oops. The Chiefs, of course, play in Missouri. Close, but no cigar.

Fast forward to 2025, and Trump is back with more football takes. He dropped a game-day statement praising Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and—of course—Travis Kelce. “The absolute best tight end in football (Ever!),” he declared.

He also couldn’t resist calling out the NFL’s new kickoff rule, calling it a “really weird-looking new kickoff ‘deal.’” And in true Trump fashion, he teased his long-awaited pregame interview: “There hasn’t been one in four years (Gee, I wonder why?).”
