“Pure Insanity”- One Condition for Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis Leaves Fans in Disbelief

As crazy as it sounds, Gervonta Davis was actually considering fighting the heavyweight YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, right when his March 1 bout against Lamont Roach Jr. was yet to happen. Apparently, Tank was looking for a big payday for his last fight, as he was planning to officially retire from the sport with a possibly untouched 30-0 record by the end of this year. Though it didn’t turn out to be as the former WBA lightweight champ would’ve expected, The Reaper wasn’t like the 30-year-old’s usual opponents, putting up a solid fight for 12 rounds. The result? Yeah, it was a draw by majority decision.

And, of course, Roach wanted a rematch. Given that their contract negotiations included the rematch clause, the knockout artist didn’t quite have a choice. Excitingly, for the 29-year-old, a rematch is in place for August 16 in Las Vegas, Nevada. But an interesting thing to note here is that all this was happening while The Problem Child was all set to fight Davis. However, Paul is now looking forward to his upcoming 10-round fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28.

Although derailed, if the Paul-Davis matchup were to happen, what would be the terms? Well, El Gallo virtually attended the Canadian-American journalist Ariel Helwani’s show, speaking about how he would’ve beaten Canelo Alvarez, if the latter didn’t duck him out. Moreover, carrying on the discussion, Helwani asked if the next one after Chavez Jr. was going to be against Tank. To this, Paul confidently dropped in with, “Yeah, that was on the one-yard line as well. But he has to rematch Lamont Roach. And uh, then we’ll be back in discussions with Mr. Gervonta.”

Then, the host asked what weight it would be at, and Paul immediately replied, “195 [pounds].”

Now, that has left fans feeling some type of way…

Jake Paul still hasn’t made a place in purists’ hearts

One of the fans wrote under the post, “5’5 Tank Davis moving from 135-195 is just pure insanity.” Sure enough, that is what must be going on in Tank fans’ minds right now. That’s because, currently a lightweight boxer, Davis has never competed above the light welterweight division, capped at 140. So, technically, there is a 60-pound difference between Paul and him for now.

Taking direct shots at the influencer-boxer, another fan commented, “Return of the cap!!! This clown is ridiculous, begging for a payday from the face of boxing!!.” By this, the user was calling out Paul for bluffing fight negotiations with high-profile boxers like Cinnamon and Davis. From the critic’s perspective, Tank is the face of boxing, and Paul is trying to make a big paycheck out of him.

Continuing the ridiculing spree, one more critic wrote, “Fool will do everything else but fight a ranked boxer.” You see, the only competitive boxers the 11-1 has fought until now are an out-of-prime Mike Tyson and Tommy Fury. While he won a unanimous decision in a frustrating victory over Tyson in November last year, he lost the Fury bout in February a year before that. So, until now, Paul still remains in the hated zone, at least when it comes to purists.

Yet again, becoming a plus one to the haters’ sentiment, a user wrote, Get this clown out of boxing, all he is doing is making a mockery of the sport.”

Exploring the possibility of a fight between Paul and Davis, a user said, “Aint no way! He [Gervonta Davis] would have to put on the type of muscle to where he [Jake Paul] cant wipe his a–. Also he [Davis] cant put that much muscle on so fast with out the aide of .” To this fan, it seemed unnatural that Tank would agree to fight Paul with such a big weight gap.

Trying to clear the confusion of newbies in the sport, one fan also mentioned that, “Are yall slow because Tank would of had the fight at 195 doesn’t mean Tank was going to be 195!! Jake Paul just can’t be over 195!!!! Duh!!!!”

So, it’s evident how Gervonta Davis fans are worried about Jake Paul’s beast size overpowering their favorite boxer. But, what do you think? Will the fight make it to the ring? And, if it does, will Davis be able to emerge victorious despite the massive weight difference?
