Now, that’s sad. The Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers has been known for his glitz and glamor. Yet, the 2024 season saw Ewers hardly found his good luck by his side. Every time he tried to stand out, the universe had foul plans of dragging him to the ground. Yes, injuries have been Ewers’ biggest foe this season.
However, there are some interesting updates about his injuries. Meanwhile, even after taking himself away from college, football didn’t quite help. He seems to have carried the bad juju in the next chapter of his life as well. His draft stocks do not look good. Forget good – it’s hit an all-time low.
Quinn Ewers’ reappearance weeks after the Cotton Bowl
Well, in Ewers’ list of terrible years in his 21 years, 2024 definitely holds the top place. After all, it’s not only the quarterback who had been put in the hot seat. He had put the whole Longhorns program and HC Steve Sarkisian in a big dilemma. But by now he must have got used to it. He injured his right throwing shoulder in a game against Alabama in 2022 and injured his left shoulder against Houston in 2023. This led to Ewers missing five games in both 2022 and 2023. The 2024 was not any better and the QB missed two games making the total number 7 over the last three years. But looks like there is some rocking update before the combine scheduled for February 27.

The college football fans might be really upset with how the QB dealt with an oblique injury early in the season. Later on, he sustained a minor ankle ailment against Kentucky. Then came the Cotton Bowl, and it was a disaster! The Longhorns QB got strip sacked by the Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer on fourth down.
After that, the water flowed much further. Keeping himself away from any action on the gridiron, Ewers had declared for the NFL Draft. Finally, after almost a month, his clip went viral. And guess what? The quarterback is slowly making a comeback.
On February 4, an analyst for Inside Texas, Charlie Williams posted a clip of Ewers returning to the field. The caption read, “Quinn warming up with the go ball!”
On3 Sports analyst Justin Wells later re-shared the post and wrote, “First time since the Cotton Bowl that Ewers has thrown the ball. Dealing with multiple injuries in the last two months of 2024. Arm strength is returning. @QuinnEwers .” Woah!
Now does this mean Ewers will have a big breakthrough in the league? Oops! The universe is likely to test his patience there too.
A reality check for Quinn Ewers’ big NFL dreams
Sadly, unlike the other college football frontrunners in the 2025 Draft stock like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, Ewers is yet to enjoy the limelight. Rather, there remain some pressing questions about the Longhorns signal caller. As per the Pro Football Focus’ “NFL Draft Big Board,” the Texas QB has been ranked the seven-best available quarterback. Surprising, isn’t it?
After all, both Ewers and Georgia Bulldogs’ QB Carson Beck were projected to be among the top two quarterbacks selected in the NFL Draft. All thanks to the 2024 season, they no longer enjoy the prime seats. While Beck refused to take any chance and made a U-turn to college football, using his final year of eligibility to transfer to Miami, Ewers declared for the draft. And do you know his stocks had hit rock bottom? Yes, he got compared to the fifth-round pick from last year.
That’s none other than Spencer Rattler. The New Orleans Saints picked Rattler as the 150th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2024 draft. The NFL Rookie Watch’s post about Quinn Ewers read, “Many NFL scouts reportedly believe Ewers’ “real value” sits in the third/fourth round, but QB needy teams will jump the gun earlier than that.”
As per ESPN’s latest mock draft, the Texas QB will be picked early in the second round at pick No. 42. All eyes are on the Combine with Quinn Ewers having a lot to prove.
