Horrifying. That’s the only way to describe Stewart Friesen’s crash at the Autodrome Drummond. Entering Turn 3, the dirt racer ran wide with his big block modified, and his car hit the outside wall at lightning-fast speed, caught air, flipped multiple times, and caught fire after it landed. To make matters worse, another car hit Friesen’s vehicle, as audible gasps were heard across the track at the sheer magnitude of the incident.
As things stand, Super DIRTcar Series, the sanctioning body Friesen was racing with, issued an update saying that Friesen was “alert and communicating with officials and EMT.” However, when the incident occurred, safety officials were seen dragging the racer’s body out of the wreckage, and he was rushed to the hospital for further evaluations. Meanwhile, the other drivers appear to be safe.
Stewart Friesen hasn’t had luck on his side lately. The Truck Series driver had a difficult race at the Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Even though he led 20 laps and earned nine stage points, the racer was disqualified despite being the third driver to cross the start-finish line. However, Friesen can take solace in the fact that he’ll be participating in the playoffs for the first time since 2022, after securing a win at Michigan International Speedway.
