‘RIP Mate’: Greg Norman Completely Shattered as Employee & Longtime Friend Passes Away

Losing someone can be both tragic and traumatizing, and losing a friend on top of that? Even worse. And golf legend, Greg Norman, seems to be going through the same unbearable pain after the tragic passing away of his long-time friend, Jason McCoy. Additionally, Jason McCoy was last seen working at the Greg Norman Golf Course Design in February 2024.

Then, McCoy finished the first phase of renovation at The Course Wente Vineyards in Livermore, California, which included new bunkering. Interestingly, this project was led by both McCoy and Rogelio Abarca 26 years after Greg Norman and his team originally designed the course at Wente Vineyards, the oldest continuously operated family-owned winery in the U.S. Additionally, Jason McCoy was a Senior Vice President at Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD).

Undoubtedly, the trust went long between the two. And that is exactly why Jason McCoy’s recent passing away has affected Greg Norman so much. Taking to Instagram, the former star golfer made a post and wrote a lengthy note to his late friend. @GNGCD has lost one of the greatest people of all time. The golf course design business has equally lost one of the pioneers of golf course construction. His trade honed by Pete Dye. And I have lost a friend of 33 years. We laughed, loved, lead from the front on many issues, attacked life from the mountains to the seas, built some of the great courses of the world together leaving an indelible footprint of over 100 golf courses globally. Every course @GNGCD has built and will build going forward will have your spirit, soul and fingerprint on it. RIP mate. I will truly miss you more than you know. See you upstairs some time in the future my friend!!”

This is a developing story…
