And breathe. That’s likely what Sam Kerr is telling herself now that her court case has officially come to an end. The Chelsea star, who appeared at Kingston Crown Court after being charged with racially abusing a police officer two years ago, has been found not guilty. It’s undoubtedly great news for the forward. This also led her to share a heartfelt note expressing that she is “fully focused on getting back.”
Reflecting on the demanding days behind her, Kerr took to Instagram stories to share a statement following the verdict. She expressed gratitude to her supporters, family, and closed ones for their unwavering support and stated that she can now finally focus on resuming her journey on the pitch. “Following today’s not guilty verdict, I can finally put this challenging period behind me,” she began.
The 31-year-old also condemned her conduct during the events that landed her in this soup initially. “While I apologize for expressing myself poorly on what was a traumatic evening, I have always maintained that I did not intend to insult or harm anyone and I am thankful that the jury unanimously agreed.”
“I would like to thank my partner Kristie, my family, friends and all the fans for their love and support, especially those who attended court each day. I am fully focused on getting back on to the pitch and look forward to an exciting year ahead for me and my family,” she concluded.
Notably, the incident in question took place on January 30, 2023. After being unable to book an Uber, Kerr and her girlfriend, Mewis, opted for a cab following a night of drinking at a friend’s party. Feeling unwell, Sam leaned out of the window to vomit. However, she later claimed that the driver rolled up the window and drove recklessly for 15–20 minutes. This event caused a panic within the lovebirds.
In an attempt to open the doors and windows, Mewis ended up kicking out a window. This prompted the driver to detour to Twickenham police station. There, Kerr allegedly directed abusive remarks toward police constable Stephen Lovell. While the Chelsea star admitted to calling Lovell “stupid and white” during the trial, she denied that her words constituted a criminal offense.
Many did come to the defense of Kerr and Mewis regarding the incident. However, a surprising courtroom moment sparked widespread debate within the soccer community.
Sam Kerr had another surprising incident within the court room.
During the trial, Sam Kerr captured attention by disclosing deeply personal details. It all began during an unexpected courtroom moment when Judge Peter Lodder asked how she met Mewis. Without hesitation or a second thought, the Matildas captain candidly responded, “She slid into my DMs.” The remark sparked laughter in the public gallery, where Kerr’s mother, father, and brother were present.
But the revelations didn’t stop there. Kerr went on to share more about her future with Mewis, confirming their plans to marry in December. Additionally, the Chelsea star also shared that the couple is expecting a baby boy in May. This unexpected gender reveal stirred debate on social media, with many fans arguing that such a personal detail shouldn’t have been shared in a courtroom setting.
Months ago, the couple announced their pregnancy to fans with the message, “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” However, it’s safe to say that the recent courtroom revelation wasn’t something they had planned. For now, the couple has finally found the respite they needed.
