On February 4, Tiger Woods faced an unimaginable loss with the passing of his mother, Kultida, who had always been his “biggest fan” and a true “force of nature.” The grief was overwhelming, but amid the heartache, a bright spot emerged—his daughter, Sam, shining on the soccer field. Sam Woods helped the Benjamin High School girls’ soccer team to a state title triumph. As a defender and a captain, she showed incredible leadership and determination in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Lakeland Christian.
Sam Woods and her team held strong despite a tough first half, keeping their opponents scoreless through the second half and overtime. The match culminated in a dramatic game-winning goal by Sienna Barboni, securing the title and offering Tiger a moment of pride amidst the pain.
When asked what that meant to him during the TGL post-round presser on Tuesday, he said, “Well, the core group of girls that were on that team have been together since they were sick, so they’ve played traveled and they’ve played for Benjamin. To be able to end her high school career like that and to go on as a state champion is pretty cool. She’s going to Stanford in the fall, so everything is really trending.”
