Seahawks Confirm Stance Against Sam Darnold’s Backup in Clear Message as 62-Game Starter Linked to Seattle

We’re very excited about what we’ve added to this team, the depth, the toughness, the competitors, and the reliability,” said Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider, feeling confident that they’ve got this draft right. In their eleven rounds, the team made 11 selections, adding fresh talent to their roster. The Seattle brass added nine players on the offensive line and two on the defensive side of the ball. One of their major additions on the offensive line is QB Jalen Milroe. As expected, Seattle drafted a QB, adding competition to the QB room for Sam Darnold. And who is it?

John Schneider drafted the Alabama QB in the third round as the No. 92 overall pick. For the 22-year-old, hearing his name called was a moment he had been waiting for a long time. So, when reporters had a chance for a brief conversation with him after the pick, Jalen made a confession that later turned out to be an awkward situation for Schneider. Milroe told the reporters that the Seahawks told him they viewed him as the best QB in the draft. “The Seahawks knew I was the best quarterback in the draft. They emphasized that.

Well, that didn’t age quite well, because when the GM was asked about it, he paused for a moment before responding, saying, “Uh, no. I don’t think he was actually. But it was damn close.” Well, the young QB’s confidence is evident, but Schneider just isn’t ready to crown him yet. Especially with the team possibly planning to start their season with veteran QB Sam Darnold.

Awkward: Jalen Milroe said that the Seahawks told him he was the best QB in the draft at his 30-visit.

Seattle’s GM and Head Coach denied this during a press conference.

On the other hand, Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald shared the team’s plans for how they’ll use the Alabama alum. “Jalen is a quarterback through and through. He’s going to be trained to play quarterback for us. When he’s in there, he’s going to be playing quarterback,” Mike said. Well, with the team fully focused on developing Milroe, Sam Darnold’s future with the Seahawks doesn’t seem all that secure.

As the Seahawks continue to shape their roster, the team is also eyeing another key talent for the defensive side.

John Schneider is looking to further bolster the defensive line

Seattle has made only two selections on the defensive line in the draft. They picked safety Nick Emmanwori in the second round as the 50th overall pick, and then defensive tackle Rylie Mills from Notre Dame. Seattle lost a couple of defensive players in free agency. Like DE Dre’Mont Jones, who signed a contract with the Titans in free agency. The team also parted ways with veteran DE Roy Robertson-Harris, who is now on the Giants roster. So clearly, the Seahawks need to add some depth to their defensive line.

So, Cory Woodroff, a writer for For the Win, predicts that Schneider will sign defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi. Foley is an undrafted free agent who last played with the Texans. The 30-year-old has started over 62 games. Originally drafted by the Jets, Foley played the first four years of his career in New York. After that, the defensive tackle had a three-year stint with the Jaguars before landing in Houston on a one-year deal last year. Over his seven-year career, Fatukasi has played in 86 games, recording 187 tackles, 22 quarterback hits, and seven passes defensed.

The last season for Foley Fatukasi hasn’t exactly been elite. Pro Football Focus gave the Texans‘ DT a low grade of 33.7, ranking him 211th out of 219 interior defenders. But, Schneider might still look to sign him, especially considering Seattle already has strong defensive leaders like newly-signed DE DeMarcus Lawrence, as well as Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II, and Jarran Reed. Adding Fatukasi could give the team a bit more depth on the defensive line.

Whether Seattle signs him or not remains to be seen. What do you think, will they add another veteran to the roster, or will they focus on having an offense-heavy roster?
