Von Miller and the Bills are officially breaking up… kinda. The team just cut the veteran pass rusher to clear some major cap space, but don’t rule out a reunion just yet. Miller, who’s about to hit 36, was supposed to make $17.5 million in 2025 with zero guarantees—so yeah, this move was kinda inevitable. He wasn’t exactly balling out last season thanks to injuries, but let’s be real—dude’s an eight-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl champ, and a future Hall of Famer. If Buffalo wants him back on a cheaper deal, it could still happen.
The Bills are out here playing financial Tetris, trying to stay competitive while making smart money moves. Cutting an aging star makes sense, but if Miller doesn’t run it back, some Super Bowl hope is 100% gonna slide into his DMs. He’s still got that clutch factor, and teams love a guy who knows how to turn up in the playoffs.
Before dropping Miller, Buffalo was staring at an $8.69 million cap hole. Thankfully, the NFL raised the cap to around $277.5M–$281.5M, giving them a little wiggle room. With Miller gone, they free up another $8.4M, but they’re still not totally in the clear.
They’ve been making money moves elsewhere too—cutting punter Sam Martin saved them almost $1.9M, and they just locked down Greg Rousseau with a four-year, $80M bag ($54M guaranteed). The Bills are clearly trying to keep their squad solid while not going broke. As for Miller? Whether he’s back in Buffalo or off chasing another ring, his next move is gonna be straight-up must-watch TV.
