Fully embracing technology, Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, has creatively found numerous applications for AI in his life, both personally and as a parent. From generating workout plans to creating bedtime stories with ChatGPT, he consistently adopts innovative solutions. His positive experience using ChatGPT to accurately profile his personality just last month further highlights this. So, it’s no shock that he’s now using it for his daughter – it’s not exactly what you’d expect.
Alexis Ohanian, husband of Serena Williams, recently took to social media and jumped in on the same trend. On April 11, he shared some regular AI Ghibli pictures on his X account, tagging ‘The Athletic’s’ Evan Parker, and wrote, “OK hear me out @evaneparker what if we built a way to turn your @onMantel profile photo into a trading card from your favorite year/set—can you guess all of these?“.
One of the pictures depicts Alexis Ohanian with a laptop in his hand, standing and cheering after what seems to be landing a massive deal. Another depicts the techie in a college varsity jacket in his student avatar. This alone shows how Alexis is well into the technological world and embraced the ‘new’ AI culture. But the picture he shared recently of his daughter had a massive twist!
On Sunday, the techie shared a picture of a cute puppy sitting on an adorable pink mattress with innocence in its eyes, staring endlessly into the camera. Turns out this is actually Alexis’ daughter Olympia, whom he has turned into a cute little puppy using the ‘Ghibli’ AI art. “Everyone’s using AI to turn their pets into humans, but I’m here turning my child into a dog, ” wrote the father of two.
Well, Alexis posted the same thing on his Instagram story and wrote, “Oops, I turned @olympiaohanian into a dog“. Turns out it was a typical Saturday at Williams’ house.
In an IG post, the techie shared several pictures that seemingly depict the father-daughter duo sculpting a cute ‘kitty’ and Olympia painting the toy in a beautiful hue of pink and white. Another picture showed him watching the Chelsea Women’s Soccer team on TV. He captioned the post, “Saturday. Arts & Crafts. @chelseafcw. Turned @olympiaohanian into a puppy. Full moon. Good day“.
On March 30, Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian reacted humorously on X to a first look at an AI-created superhero action figure of himself from the startup Intro. “I’d get this for my daughters, knowing they would never play with it, but just for the reaction when they see their dad as a little action figure. lol. Please make these IRL,” he said.
The miniature figure accurately captured his appearance and included a charming detail: his eldest daughter, Olympia. However, baby Adira was noticeably missing. Seeing the AI-generated action figure without Adira, Ohanian turned to Instagram to correct the oversight, posting an image captioned: “My action figure, according to ChatGPT. Nice. I apparently don’t talk to the AI enough about @adiraohanian – I’m sorry, Dee Dee.”
Notably, the entrepreneur is someone who is a staunch supporter of AI’s transformation.
Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian says AI should moderate social media
Earlier in March this year, in a press conference in Qatar, Ohanian said that AI could “unlock” a system where people could use “sliders” to “choose their level of tolerance” about social media posts.
“I’d imagine another wave of social media platforms building this way, and probably the incumbents adopting versions of it as well,” Ohanian told a CNBC reporter at the conference. Furthermore, Ohanian expressed his belief that social media will “eventually reach a point where users can select their own algorithm.”
“We’re all incentivized to have the best possible algorithm, not because of anything sinister, but because we want to keep people engaged,” Ohanian said. “It drives revenue. It does all those things, but I think the next iteration of it is to actually let us choose the weights and levers of those algorithms so that we have a bit more agency and ownership.”
In the last year, Reddit has heavily invested in AI initiatives, forging partnerships with two leading AI companies. In February 2024, a $60 million annual licensing deal was established with Google to utilize Reddit content for AI model training. This was followed in May by a major content data-sharing agreement with OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, to enhance their AI models.
Well, it’s only a matter of time when we see these predictions turning into reality. Given the pace at which AI is growing, it isn’t farfetched.
