Serious Action Against Jon Jones Demanded as 100,000+ Left Frustrated Amid Tom Aspinall Update

Jon Jones still holds the title of undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. However, it’s not his performance in the Octagon that is making headlines lately. Rather, it’s his absence. For the past 18 months, Jones has remained silent on a potential unification bout with interim champ Tom Aspinall. His silence has left the heavyweight division in a frustrating limbo. With no clear answers and the clock ticking, fans are growing increasingly impatient. The tension isn’t just simmering behind the scenes anymore—it’s boiling over onto social media.

Such is the frustration that they have taken things into their own hands and issued a petition. The petition on Change.org read, “Jon Jones is now the longest reigning champion in UFC heavyweight history and has only fought 2 times in that period. There is a clear interim champion, Tom Aspinall, who has defended his interim championship belt. Aspinall is ready to fight Jones. Jones refuses to fight him. Therefore, we as fans must let Dana White know: It is time to strip Jones of the heavyweight title. He clearly has no intentions of fighting anytime soon.”

The signatures on the petition has been racking up at a rapid pace lately. Now it has finally achieved the magic number of over 100,000. Kevin(@realkevink) took to his X account to share the news with the fans. His caption in the tweet read as, “The “Strip Jon Jones” Petition Has Officially Hit 100 Thousand Signatures Via Tony_Has_Died Campaign”. According to another update a few days back on X by ‘Realkevink’, “Jon Jones Has BLOCKED Tony_Has_Died On Instagram Following The Strip Jon Jones Campaign”.

What started as a clever username — Tony_Has_Died — has now become the rallying cry of a growing movement. Frustrated by Jon Jones’ silence, the user has become a symbol of the fan rebellion demanding answers. So when he urged Jones to sign a petition pushing for the Tom Aspinall fight, the champ didn’t respond with words—he responded by hitting the block button.

Since making the jump to heavyweight in 2023, Jon Jones has stepped into the Octagon only twice. In that same span, interim champion Tom Aspinall has gone above and beyond to prove he’s worthy of a unification clash. He dismantled Sergei Pavlovich with a knockout and successfully defended his interim title against Curtis Blaydes.

Yet despite his efforts, there’s still no sign of Jones—just radio silence from the undisputed champ. However, it seems he is now ready to move on from this particular battle and focus on the different contenders.

Tom Aspinall feels it’s the right time to move on from the Jon Jones fight

Will Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones ever share the Octagon? If you ask Dana White, the answer is a confident yes—he’s gone on record saying the fight can “100%” happen.” But when it comes to ‘Bones,’ things get murky. Jones recently told a fan that he’s already informed the UFC of his decision but stopped short of saying what that decision actually is.

It’s classic Jones — cryptic, calculated, and keeping everyone guessing.  Jones is currently in Thailand, involved in a fight program reminiscent of The Ultimate Fighter. On the other hand, Tom Aspinall is staying ready, training hard, and preparing for the call that could come at any moment.

However, during a recent conversation with TNT Sports, the hard-hitting Brit made it clear that he is ready to fight anyone. Aspinall said, “Same as always, I’ll fight anybody, just send the option my way, I will say yes. I am pretty easygoing in that regard, I am here to fight people, I am not here to do—I mean, we have been doing a bit of media stuff recently, but that’s only cause I am not fighting. Give me a fight, I will say yes, and that’s it, the opponent is regardless.”

At 32, Tom Aspinall is in the prime of his career. Meanwhile, ‘Bones’, now 37, holds the prestigious title of undisputed heavyweight champion, but his legacy is already cemented. For Aspinall, the road is still rising. He’s hungry, ambitious, and rightfully calling for a shot at the division’s elite.
