Streaming dominates the world of sports storytelling. ESPN’s The Last Dance shattered records, pulling in 5.6 million viewers per episode. Netflix’s Quarterback turned Patrick Mahomes into a mainstream icon. Now, the $446.29 billion streaming giant is setting its sights on Reebok’s resurrection.
They’re bringing in two NBA legends – Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson. But here’s the twist: to tell Reebok’s untold story, Shaq and AI must expose parts of their past they’ve long kept private. The cameras are rolling, and no stone will be left unturned
Allen Iverson stepped in as Vice President of Basketball Operations at Reebok. While Big Aristotle is President of Reebok Basketball, making them a powerhouse duo leading the charge. Reebok was once a titan, dropping classics like the Shaqnosis and the Question. But as Nike dominated the market and Adidas found its groove, Reebok got lost in the shuffle. But now?
Reebok is about to get the Netflix treatment. The upcoming documentary Power Moves spotlights Shaq’s journey with Reebok – from signing with Reebok as a young NBA star to now leading its resurgence. As the documentary dives deep into iconic sports stories from around the world, the documentary aims to renew attention on both Shaq and Reebok.
Ian Gelfand will direct the documentary, produced by Buckingham Television Inc., for the $446.29 billion OTT giant. Notably, it’s been years since Nike featured in a brand-centric documentary. One Man and His Shoes, released in 2020, was more about Michael Jordan than Nike itself, yet still grossed nearly $11 million worldwide.
Last year, Shareef dropped subtle hints about a major project in the works. While keeping details vague, he dropped clues that something big was in the works for Reebok. Now, with Reebok taking center stage, this could be the moment Shaq, Iverson, and Reebok have been waiting for.
Shaquille O’Neal’s secret plans
Shareef O’Neal, after overcoming a serious heart condition, now works alongside his father, a journey he detailed in an interview with ClutchPoints: “My role with that was kind of this coordinator a little-bit. I was the younger culture they brought in Reebok.”
But that wasn’t all. Shareef shared how Shaq leaned on his perspective to make Reebok relevant again. “So my dad’s like, ‘You know what kids like nowadays? You’re the young generation. You know you wear the baggy-a-s pants, the big shoes.’” Clearly, Shaq sees his son’s insight as the missing piece in Reebok’s comeback plan. And then, Shareef made the big reveal.
He confirmed that a Netflix documentary is in the works, offering an exclusive look at Reebok’s revival. “I had to do my research on Reebok, but I know back then they were up there with Jordan and Nike. It was like they were neck and neck with Jordan and Nike.”
Shaq and Iverson dominated the court. Now they’re taking their biggest shot off it. With Netflix shining a light on its mission, the world will see whether Reebok’s revival is the next big sneaker comeback or just another nostalgia-driven gamble. The game is on
