65 million. That’s how many households concurrently tuned in to watch the Jake Paul–Mike Tyson bout in November last year. The bout was broadcast live on Netflix, and the staggering number of viewers made it the most-streamed global sporting event ever. Anyone who was caught by the camera could easily go viral after the showdown. And that’s what happened with MVP’s ring girl, Sydney Thomas.
Just 21 years old and a student at the University of Alabama, she gained significant attention at the time, ushering in a huge fan base on TikTok, where she now boasts 1.1 million followers. Since the fight, she’s attended high-profile events like the Grammys, the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, and the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Yet, even before her fame took off, she had already caught the eye of Zach Matthews, better known as Zachirific, the popular comedic TikToker. The duo, according to Zachirific, went on a date in November last year, and the topic still comes up.
Yesterday, Matthews was with Jake Paul on the latter’s podcast—BS W/ Jake Paul. Merely 3 minutes into the casual conversation, one of the hosts had brought up the Tyson-Paul fight, and pointed out that Matthews had posted a video with Sydney Thomas on his YouTube channel in December of the two out on a date, and how he didn’t put up the part where she had come up to him online.
Agreeing, Zachirific causally revealed, “Yeah, she kind of slid in my DMs and sh**, and she wanted this obviously. We can’t, you know, sugarcoat it. Had a little thing [with her], and it was what it was. But, nothing too crazy.” One of the other hosts asked Zach what it was like dating her, to which the mop-haired 29-year-old replied with a shrug, “It’s just a girl, right? Literally, when I first saw her, I was like ‘Bro, she’s mad smart.’ I was like, ‘I didn’t even notice anything else and sh**.’ So, I don’t even get where other people are coming from.” What you may not know is that Zachirific is known for making such statements, which are obviously sarcastic and are what defines his personality and type of comedy.
So as soon as he said it out loud, Jake Paul burst out laughing, given the funny nature of Matthews’ casual claims about his dating life, with names of celebrities like Jenna Ortega, Sydney Sweeney, and Charli D’Amelio part of the ‘long’ list. And so, the topic had then quickly shifted to him dating Sydney Sweeney as well, which Zachirific has long claimed is an ex. But what exactly is all this about? Has Matthews even been on a date with Thomas as discussed in the podcast?
Zachirific’s date with Thomas after the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight
Turns out, Zach Matthews did go on a date with Sydney Thomas. In December last year, he posted an over 18-minute clip, titled “I Took Sydney Thomas On A Date!” on his YouTube handle “zachirific.” The date was set up for a comedic content to be posted on his YouTube channel, ingrained with his particular brand of comedy.
At the beginning of the video, Matthews showed his texts with Thomas to the viewers, highlighting how he had DM-ed her with a nonchalant “?”, to which she had responded excitedly in two messages, in all capitalized letters. Later in the video, when Matthews picked her up and told her the same thing, driving their way to a restaurant, she denied remembering her texts.
Later, too, there were other comic punches like Ortega calling him, and Matthews accidentally spilling a stash of money out of his pocket while coming out of the car. Overall, whether staged or not, it is clear that he went on a date with Thomas, but as of now, nothing is going on between the two.
As for Jake Paul, he has the best of both worlds when it comes to YouTube and boxing. While his upcoming fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is lined up for June this year, he is also chilling out with fellow influencers behind the camera, enjoying his time off before training camp.
