It’s unbelievable. Just a few hours back to the NFL draft 2025 kick-off, Shedeur Sanders posted his thoughts: “I’m built for whatever today may bring.” Maybe he had some intuition or something, but he was ready to not get picked up in the first three positions. We all know how much hype was around the New York Giants. They might have signed Shedeur, but that just didn’t happen.
After the first three deals, Shedeur might have expected that at least the Las Vegas Raiders, the Saints, and the Steelers could sign him. But when Roger Goodell announced, “With the 21st pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Derrick Harmon, defensive tackle, Oregon,” hence confirming that the Buffs QB was not going to get home in the first round. Things have gone differently. Shedeur did not remain unselected in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
Well, Shedeur has expressed his heartfelt feelings after remaining unselected. But before learning about his feelings, let’s check out what weird feet the Colorado Buffaloes QB has achieved after day one of the NFL drafts 2025. A renowned college football reporter and analyst, Brett McMurphy, dropped the bombshell. It’s not just on the QB, but also on the University of Colorado.
He said, “Weird stat: Shedeur Sanders is the 1st player in college football history to have his number retired & not be selected 5 days later in NFL Draft’s 1st round.” On April 14, Colorado University retired the Jersey numbers of Travis Hunter and Shedeur. Though many liked it, lots of fans urged the NCAA to scrutinise the retirement of numbers.

Well, that’s a different topic. But going undrafted in the first round after they retired his jersey makes it feel like the university handed fans a half-baked cake. It might not be entirely fair to criticize the school for retiring his number. But that gesture ended up reflecting poorly on Sanders, especially since zero NFL teams saw him as a first-round pick.
Well, let’s look at how Shedeur Sanders has reacted after not remaining unselected in round one.
Shedeur Sanders felt devastated, yet also fired up
He appeared on the first day of the draft 2025 with an iced-out $100k worth silver chain. But he didn’t expect that it would be such a bad day of his life. When reporters asked him, he just said, “We didn’t all expect this, of course… I feel like this didn’t happen for no reason. All of this is, of course, fuel to the fire.” But the Buffs QB also has a belief that he will get drafted in round 2.
That’s why he said, “Tomorrow’s the day. We’re gonna be happy regardless.” The last hope he had in round 1 was from Mike Tomlin‘s Steelers, but they picked up Derrick Harmon, and the HC also gave an explanation for the draft. But all in all, it was a bit humiliating for Shedeur. And looking at his personality, he won’t forget this day. Remember Tom Brady‘s 199th overall selection. There is no comparison between Shedeur and the GOAT. But from a ‘fuel to the fire’ standpoint, Shedeur can learn a lot of things from Brady.
Now that only six rounds are remaining in the draft, what are your thoughts? Which team do you think will take a chance on Shedeur Sanders? Got any guesses on which round he’ll go in?
