Coach Prime’s family is always drama galore! When there’s no drama on the field, we usually get our fair share off the field. Some of it is manufactured by the media, and in a few cases, the Sanders family hasn’t been able to help itself. What’s the new stuff? Well, it concerns Deion Sanders’ ex-wife Pilar Sanders- the mother of Shelomi, Shilo, and Shedeur. If you aren’t familiar with the happenings of Shilo’s and Shedeur’s life, these are extremely busy times for the brothers. They have the Draft to look forward to, and in the elder brother’s case, he has to prove himself before he finds any takers in April. Is that all? What has this to do with Pilar?
Well, well! Of course, we understand the busy nature of the lives of the brothers. But, are you so busy that you don’t even take a moment for your mother on your social media? On her special day? Her birthday? No posts for the person who brought you into this world? And it’s not like Shilo and Shedeur weren’t active on social media today. They even shared Stories. While Shilo posted about a pair of shoes, Shedeur posted a variety of stories – like a picture of his laptop and a lawn, a video of a fan unboxing his merch, and finally a snap from his gym, both the boys didn’t write anything to mom Pilar on her birthday.
It’s sad to see this happening, especially after how Pilar has always been very vocal about her love for the boys. She has always been closer to Shilo, her firstborn. In 2022, she revealed how the love was mutual between them, as one day, amid her everyday visits to his games for Jackson State Tigers, Shilo once asked Pilar to stay at home and not visit him. On asking why, Shilo confessed he disliked when people looked at her, and the young boy started covering her mom immediately. Pilar laughed about the incident while describing it in 2022, but it’s not funny anymore to see how the tables have turned. Sad.
You might be thinking why is it such a big deal to post it on Instagram? Well, it is a big deal. Look at what Shelomi has done. The Alabama A&M Bulldogs guard is also as busy as her brother. Amid her diabetes treatment and recent NIL partnership with super singer Rihanna, the basketball player put in a ton of effort to make Pilar smile.
Among her three heartwarming pictures with Pilar, posted on Instagram, the first one features a silly selfie of both, captioned “Happy birthday to my pretty girl @pilarsander,” followed by an “I love you.” Next up is a cute video clip of Shelomi slicing a cucumber, while Pilar isn’t too confident about her daughter using the knife like an amateur. The last one is their mirror selfie together, and honestly, the mother-daughter duo looks identical enough that it’s even hard to differentiate.
Pilar reposted all of Shelomi’s stories, acknowledging that she appreciated the lovely gesture. Hence, the IG posts matter, because efforts matter. Also if Shelomi can be so proud about Pilar’s birthday and show her love to her 473k followers, what’s wrong with the boy having their followers in millions?
Are Shilo and Shedeur Sanders choosing coach dad Deion Sanders over Pilar?
Shilo’s actions remind us of how he even took to X (former Twitter) to announce in a now-deleted post that he’s now “officially back full time” with Pilar after he got separated from her amid Pilar and Deion’s nasty divorce back in 2013. He always chose his mom over his pro-footballer father. Pilar, to date, praises her sons on social media.
When Shilo posed with a few children at the AT&T Stadium after the East-West Shrine Bowl in Texas on January 30, 2025, she reposted his pictures, praising the safety for making those children’s day so special. Also, remember how she congratulated Shilo publicly when he was set to star as Deion Sanders in BMF in May 2024? So what happened now? Are the boys now changing sides?
During the Shrine Bowl, Shilo and Shedeur took a stance on their 2022 decision to tail dad Deion and change their teams from Jackson State Tigers to Colorado Buffaloes. Shilo said he doesn’t call himself “Prime’s son,” and has been carving out his space in the football industry through hard work, but it still remains undeniable that he’s Deion Sander’s son. “I mean, that’s our dad – he’s great.”
But the 24-year-old rapper and footballer also urged fans to call them Pilar’s sons, acknowledging her love and support. Colorado Buffalo QB Shedeur, 22, had a different take. He said his father Deion was the best cornerback, and therefore he actively seeks his guidance. Not only does he want to become the next Deion Sanders, but also considers that the pro footballer must train his son – implying that he’s never completely cut ties with his father.
Pilar and Deion’s divorce in 2013 wasn’t any less of a drama, and following the developments, we all know that there’ll be a rift in their family. Deion Sander’s direct coaching of his sons makes the dynamic more twisted. But thanks to Shelomi for being so considerate to their mother. Love conquers all, and we wish Pilar a happy birthday and a great year ahead!
