Tampering allegations, NCAA rule violations, and NIL deals are being distributed like cookies. Michigan Wolverines could see themselves in a self-created storm in the coming season. Still, Sherrone Moore doesn’t feel the wind even a little bit as he is busy preparing for his 2025 season. Landing players like Bryce Underwood and Andrew Babalola. After a disappointing season in 2024, whose only highlight was probably their Ohio State win, they are looking to rectify all that.
But what would happen when trying to fix a leak on one side of the pipe only to find the other being left open? Well, that is the sort of scenario that has happened over the years for Michigan and Sherrone Moore. It majorly concerns their running back department. But, most importantly, there is the looming concern of the never-ending leak of talent.
One of the talents was Rod Moore, the Michigan hero who sealed their win against Ohio State. He suffered a season-ending injury last season, and it seems he hasn’t fully recovered. Craig Shemon of ‘Locked on Big20’ highlighted the timeline in which the player would come back. “It’s been a full year, and Wink (Don Martindale) says he hasn’t really run in like 14 months since the national championship game; they say he’s going to be ready for the fall, so I don’t know. But it’s been, and you know, once you get to this point, it’s much mental as it is physical. But he does not feel ready, and he’s not going to play in the spring. He’s not going to play in spring practice; he’s not going to play in the spring game, so they do think he’ll be ready to go by fall.” Then there’s another problem.
Well, we all know Rushing was one of the problems for Michigan in the 2024 season. They finished ranked 70th nationally at only 157.2 yards per game. This was quite a bit of a downgrade from their 2023 season, when they finished with 169.3 rushing yards per game. Surely, Sherrone Moore inherited the program from Jim Harbaugh after he departed to the NFL, and this was Moore’s first season at the boss table. Still, there were problems in their rushing offense, as highlighted. They could perform as they did only with the help of players like Donovan Edwards, who rushed 589 yards for 128 carriers, and Kalel Mullings, who rushed close to 1,000 yards for 185 carries. But, now, they are departing.

Craig Shemon of ‘Locked on Big20’ highlighted the issues that Michigan has faced in its running backs department over the recent years. “Let’s talk about the running back room. It seems like the last couple of years, they’ve lost a lot of really good ones. I was watching Donovan Edwards at the combine working out, setting all sorts of records; he did a lot of interviews, and I mean let’s face it, you go this past year and the year before the Exodus of running backs going into the NFL, that’s a lot of talent that’s gone out the door. Kalel Mullings, in addition to Blake Corum, the year before going to the NFL.“.
Well, Shemon is quite right in some aspects. This is because in this year only we saw both Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings going off to the NFL. Before that, we saw Blake Corum, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Rams, departing to the NFL in the 2024 draft. The departure of Edwards will sting most importantly, as recently in the Combine the player has performed quite well. He ran 40 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds, 10 10-yard dash in 1.51 seconds, and a vertical jump of 38.5 inches. Surely, his departure will sting for Sherrone Moore. Then there’s another problem brewing up for Sherrone Moore and Michigan.
Sherrone Moore in troubled waters again amid tampering allegations?
Well, we all know the kind of damage that has been done and the kind of talks looming around concerning Michigan. Harbaugh ducked the Burgergate and went to the NFL, and Sherrone Moore was left at Michigan fixing his roof. Still, there were serious allegations against Moore, too. His WhatsApp chats got leaked, giving alleged instructions to now-fired Connor Stallions. The revelation was done by an alleged whistleblower whom Michigan was hell bent on finding as they asked the NCAA regarding his/her identity. But there’s a new twist in the whole story.
Ohio State Insider Nevada Bucks provided the shocking update. “One of the things that Michigan has been asking for, you know, and this is if you’ve been fed the saga, there was a revelation in the NOA that there was a whistleblower, there was a whistleblower, and the Michigan people had insisted all along that the whistleblower was Ryan Day’s brother or that Ryan Day himself. Kind of like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, one of those black suits, and lowered himself down and hacked into the computers and got the stuff out and turned them into the NCAA or whatever their story was, and it turned out that it was a Michigan source.”
The actual identification of the person still remains in full anonymity, but a recent Wolverines’ communications to the NCAA also revealed that the source likely “appears to have worked at the school.” Michigan has coincidentally dropped its demand to reveal the person’s name and identity. The turn of events is quite shocking and nothing short of a full-blown soap opera. However, the NCAA is hell-bent on finding and punishing the culprit as they want to use this incident to make an example out of Michigan so that the incident would act as a deterrent.
