Shilese Jones Returns to Form and Fans Feel Every Bit of It

The promise of Paris 2024 slipped away in a single, devastating moment for Shilese Jones. During warm-ups on June 28, 2024, at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, the two-time World Championships medalist landed awkwardly on vault, tearing her ACL and meniscus in her left knee. What happened next revealed everything about her character.

Despite excruciating pain, Jones pushed through to compete on uneven bars that evening, delivering the day’s highest score of 14.675. But the fairy tale ended the next morning.

Following a medical evaluation, Jones was withdrawn from competition; her bid for Paris was officially over. The knee injury was just the latest blow in what had become a battle against her own body—she’d already been managing a persistent labral tear in her right shoulder since before the 2022 World Championships. But now, the good part comes…

She had earlier shown signs of recovery, and now, she steps back into the gym again, and fans love it.

The former world champion took to her Instagram story the other day and uploaded a video of herself performing a move. The gymnast smoothly stepped in with controlled momentum, driving her back leg up and pushing off her front foot to start a strong sideways rotation. Without using her hands, she performed a clean aerial cartwheel with legs straddled, keeping her core tight and torso upright.

She landed gracefully on her front leg, quickly followed by the back leg, finishing with steady balance and extended arms. Shilese Jones has performed an aerial. She wrote, “First denial since my injury ” Shilese Jones has performed her first aerial in a year! Fans went, “My girl is alive.”  But she did not stop there.

In another story, she successfully executed the move on the beam. The caption of the story read, “Decided to try on the beam I’m crazy.”

She also added, “not the best, but it’s been a huge accomplishment to be able to do this. Still ways to go, but embracing the small mine do @skorngold.” And now, fans are once again hopeful and all in for her comeback.

Fans Rejoice as Shilese Jones steps back into the gym

Fans are more than happy to see the gymnast do the aerial, and she might have done it too perfectly because this one fan said, “omg she helped me learn how to do an aerial through this vid.” That’s how good you want to be at something.

Another rejoiced, “Ah! This made my heart happy!” After hearing injury updates, seeing one of your favorite gymnasts back in action is one of the best things a fan could wish for. Of course, Shilese flipping in the air is heartwarming to the gymnastics community.

“Wow, Shilese looking strong after that injury! Huge for her confidence heading into Championships…” If a fan learns from your skills after your return from injury, those moves ought to be strong. But she is not currently scheduled to compete in any upcoming gymnastics championships. Her recent activities have focused on coaching rather than competing. Concurrently, she coaches at Ascend Gymnastics and has taken on a coaching role at the U.S. Classic and Hopes Championships.

And fans echoed an emotional moment. “She’s so back .” Performing an aerial after more than a year, nailing it, and then going to the beam, attempting it, and nailing it again. Oh, Shilese Jones indeed seems so back. What do you think?
