Shilo Sanders and Shedeur Sanders, the two sons of the hall of fame inducted former NFL legend Deion Sanders, have quite different trajectories. Shedeur Sanders, on the one hand, produced more than 4,000+ yards last season, leading Colorado to a 9-win season and making his place at the top of the NFL draft. On the other hand, Shilo Sanders has troubles coming for him from all directions. The Colorado safety wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine and couldn’t even make a mark on the pro day. Now, after all of this, Shilo has another major trouble brewing up.
We all know the controversial case that Shilo has been involved in since 2015, with a security guard, John Darjean. The issue erupted 10 years back when the safety was just 15 years of age and allegedly assaulted Darjean after he tried to confiscate Shilo’s phone. Darjean was a security guard at the Focus Academies in Texas and, in turn, filed the case against Shilo and his parents. Demanded more than $11 million in damages. The court didn’t rule in Shilo’s favor and awarded $11.89 million in damages to Darjean.
With the help of his lawyers, Shilo filed for bankruptcy and has so far avoided paying any of the court-ordered amount to Darjean. However, another legal battle soon emerged—this time, with a powerful opponent.
Mercedes Benz Financial Services filed another lawsuit against Shilo demanding the location of Shilo’s car in order to confiscate the said vehicle. Mercedes claimed that Shilo had missed out on several installments in the past months and owed $6,877 to the company in installments. But now the company seems to have backed down from their demand and has withdrawn the case against Shilo.
Deion Sanders also addressed the issue quite recently and claimed that his son had “fulfilled all financial obligations“. But, also acknowledged that there was some sort of “disruption in the payment process”. The luxury car that Shilo purchased well before the bankruptcy application cost him around $135,000 in installments and almost $97,000 is still due to be paid by the Buffs safety.
Mercedes Benz filed an application on April 1st and requested withdrawing the lawsuit. Shilo earlier, was granted a stay on collection of any debt or hold by creditors, which also held off Darjean’s $11.89 million in debt. Mercedes wanted relief on the stay in order to get their car back from Shilo’s possession, which they claimed was depreciating in value with time. Now, with the withdrawal of the lawsuit, it seems, one small hiccup has finally cooled down for the player. But, John Darjean’s appeal is still pending in court and it remains to be seen what happens, eventually.
Shilo Sanders becomes a laughingstock in the locker room?
Now comes another trouble for Shilo Sanders concerning his draft stock. Shilo was initially snubbed by the NFL scouting combine and wasn’t invited to showcase his prowess. The player replied to the snub by organizing a personal drill-like session in Colorado with the help of a local timekeeping company, Zybek Sports. Sanders even said, “I didn’t get invited to the combine, but I brought the combine to me“. But, still, Sanders needed to prove his might in front of scouts, who came on Colorado’s pro-day.
However, the pro-day didn’t come without its challenge. A challenge that was given by Coach Prime himself and a challenge that had a brand-new car at the end of it. The catch? Shilo had to run the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds. Shilo did run in the pro-day but only managed to clock 4.52 seconds on his first attempt and 4.59 on his second. The car didn’t really come, but what came was live bullying from Shilo’s teammates.
The boys remarked, “You don’t want your daddy’s car then I guess”. While the Buffs OT Jordan Seaton was a bit harsh, “He’s gonna text his dad like ‘I know I ain’t do it but I was close. You wanna send me a shaking head emoji?“. Shilo finally replied with, “I don’t deserve one, bro.”. This is when another player interjected, “Don’t give me a T-Rex from 2025, give me one from 2022, Dad, cuz I missed it by 0.2 seconds“.
Sure, the jabs might’ve been all in good fun. Just typical locker-room banter. But Shilo’s pro day performance has definitely stirred up conversation. Scouts and media are buzzing. Opinions are flying from every direction. Still, clocking a 4.52 as a safety isn’t a dealbreaker. If things go his way, Shilo might sneak into the later rounds of the NFL Draft
