“Purple reign 4eva,” read one of Olivia Dunne’s Instagram stories after the LSU gymnastics continued to dominate the southeast conference for a second consecutive year. The Tiger’s injury might have stopped her from playing a part in the team’s SEC victory but it wouldn’t stop her from celebrating. The influencer has been very active on her socials ever since the night of March 21, 2025, celebrating the win but the taste of it might have been soured a little after she got trolled.
The LSU 5th-year Senior took to Instagram to celebrate the SEC win with her 5.3 million followers. After a series of stories she made a post captioned, “ring SECured“. In the post the gymnast can be seen enjoying the win by throwing her hands in the air as confetti blows all around her. She posted a picture of her kissing the trophy with her LSU teammate. Another one of her laying down on the floor with the confetti once again. But the celebration has also brought in the likes of, “7th year of college btw“.
Though it was her fifth and final year of college, the 22-year-old must have been saddened that she could not compete in her final competition. The New Jersey native has been out of the competition since January 2025 after an avulsion fracture of her patella. She missed her senior night with the team, something that she had been looking forward to for years, and then the SEC final as well.
LSU took the 2025 SEC gymnastics championship trophy back to Baton Rouge as they clenched their sixth title, second for Jay Clark, with a record-breaking score of 198.200 in Session II inside Legacy Arena on March 21, 2025. Key performances included 9.925s from Haleigh Bryant and Aleah Finnegan on the Beam, a 39.725 all around for the former and Dunne’s unwavering support.
Dunne not being able to participate in the competition but being one of the most celebrated ones has brought out quite a reaction from the fans. While some have been positive towards the social media influencer, some have been criticizing the gymnast.
Fans react to Olivia Dunne’s SEC win celebration
This was Dunne’s final year in college, she had already graduated from the university back in December 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. “Livvy been in college for like 10 years,” one fan wrote. Trolling her for her time in college didn’t just end there. One other person commented, “Is this her last championship or can she somehow pass for a 7th-year senior next year?”
There was no lack of sarcasm in the comment section. One person said, “Livvy just a really educated she’s been in college for like 10 years now.” Another commented, “Super super senior year coming”. The bashing also took to her absence from the meets questing if she even deserved the trophy. One comment read, “Not doing anything on the group project but still getting an A.” One even went as far as to say, “All that celebrating for a bench warmer lmao”
Despite these trolls, you will find the 22-year-old smiling. Her fans praised her too, writing comments like, “Yessss queen so proud of you going out with a bang.” She couldn’t compete in the meet but not because she didn’t want to, and given the circumstances she had the best farewell she could. One fan commented, “LSU legend and well-deserved SEC championship.”
Dunne was a part of the LSU gymnastics team when they won their first NCAA title back in 2024. There’s no doubt of her being a legend. Owning to the national title last year and the SEC this year, one fan couldn’t help but congratulate her. They said, “Congratulations Miss back to back SEC champion and National Champion.”
Criticizing the star for how many years she spends in college is just not fair and then trolling her for missing out because of injury, something she has no control over, is just out of line. She greatly contributed to LSU for the 5 years she was with the college and received the farewell she deserved. What do you think?
