Sidney Crosby Joins Alex Ovechkin in Chasing a Wayne Gretzky Record This Season

Even though it wasn’t a great night for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby took another step toward making history. While Alex Ovechkin is chasing the NHL goals record of Wayne Gretzky, Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby is also close to breaking another one of the legend’s records.

As it stands, the 4 Nations Face-Off winner is tied with Wayne Gretzky for the most point-per-game seasons ever at 19. And he is not too far away from surpassing him either. “He’s 16 points from a 20th point-per-game season. It would break a tie with Gretzky for the most ever,” wrote NHL reporter Web Crosby on X. Make it 15 now that the game has ended and Crosby, who is in his 20th season in the NHL, is now on 65 points in 61 games.

Obviously, there’s Alex Ovechkin chasing Gretzky.

But there’s Sidney Crosby too. He’s at 64 points (with this game still going) in 61 games. Can play a max of 80.

So, he’s 16 points from a 20th point-per-game season. Would break a tie with Gretzky for the most ever. #Pens
