Sidney Crosby’s Former Teammate’s Agent Confirms Goalie’s Fairy Tale Ending

Hockey isn’t just about the intense action on the ice or the fights; it’s really about the brotherly love that develops among players as they spend time together representing a franchise. Marc-André Fleury and Sidney Crosby have one of the NHL‘s most lasting and heartwarming friendships, built over 13 seasons as teammates with the Pittsburgh Penguins. During those seasons, they both managed to snag 3 Stanley Cups for the team, with the last one happening in 2017. And that was Fleury’s final season with the Penguins.

“I’ve always said this is my home,” the goalie mentioned, but then it was time for him to put on the Vegas Golden Knights’ sweater. The teams could only protect one goaltender, and the Penguins decided to go with Matt Murray. This led to Fleury heading to Vegas. When Fleury made the move to the Golden Knights, it really kicked off a fresh start for him. He kept shining on the ice and became a key player for the new team.

Even with the change, his impact in Pittsburgh is still really significant. So, the goaltender had a record of 375 wins, 216 losses, 2 ties, and 66 overtime losses over 691 games. He posted a goals against average of 2.58 and a save percentage of .912 during his time with the Penguins. Recently, according to The Athletic, talking about Fleury’s departure from a while back, his agent Allan Walsh mentioned, “It just didn’t seem right. It didn’t seem fair.”

Fleury, or as everyone likes to call him, “Flower,” really was the heart and soul of the Penguins for more than ten years. He was picked first overall in 2003 and quickly became a key player for the team, helping them secure three Stanley Cup championships and setting records for wins and shutouts in the franchise. His infectious smile, constant positivity, and real connection with teammates and fans made him a cherished figure in Pittsburgh. One of those teammates was Sidney Crosby.

With them being teammates again in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Flower’s agent mentioned, “So for Flower and Sid to be teammates one last time, to share one last hurrah together playing for Team Canada, it sets up a possible storybook ending with Flower able to ride off into the sunset as a world champion.”

Playing for Team Canada in this event has given the two players another opportunity to team up again. According to Flower’s agent, this is going to be the perfect way for the goalie to wrap up his hockey career. Fleury is 40 years old and has wrapped up his NHL career in the 2024-25 season. This will be his final time hitting the ice. Spending time with Crosby is definitely going to bring back some memories for the goalie. And hey, if Canada really steps up in the tournament, who knows? He might just walk away from the sport, making his mark as a World Champion. How’s Team Canada doing with Crosby at the helm?

Sidney Crosby is leading Team Canada to success

Sidney Crosby’s Team Canada has really shown their strength in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, taking the top spot in Group A with an impressive 6-1-0 record and racking up 19 points. They kicked off their campaign with some impressive wins, like a 7-1 blowout against Latvia and a solid 5-0 shutout over France, really highlighting their strong offense and tough defense.

Even though Canada faced a tough 2-1 shootout loss to Finland, they bounced back really well, taking down co-hosts Sweden with a solid 5-3 win in their last preliminary game.

Veterans like Nathan MacKinnon and rising stars like Macklin Celebrini have really made a difference in their success. Canada is heading into the quarterfinals, ready to take on Denmark. And they’re on the hunt for their 29th world title!
