And this stance got her a lovely friendship with arguably the most successful gymnast, Simone Biles. Be it uplifting comments about MET Gala trends or sports achievements, Biles and Shiffrin have seldom wasted a chance to exchange a few pleasantries online. But not many expected Biles to cheer for Shiffrin six months before the Winter Olympics.
That’s right! Taking to TikTok, Simone Biles shared a short video featuring the American alpine skier. The duo danced to a verse of Illegal by Pink Pantheress. It began with Shiffrin acting to the verse, “My name is Pink and I’m really glad to meet you.” The camera shifted to Biles as she mouthed the next lines, “You’re like a mentor to me by some people.” And that showed quite a bit about the relationship that the two share.
But while Biles is currently out of action and is enjoying her time from the sidelines, Shiffrin is getting ready for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Of course, Shiffrin’s 100th World Cup victory was monumental. After all, she won it after recovering from a dangerous transversus abdominis injury. Needless to say, the upcoming Winter Olympics carry some intense weight for the skier. That’s where Biles chimed in and captioned the aforementioned TikTok video with excitement. She wrote, “six months until the #winterolympics Is anyone else getting excited for Milan Cortina???!!! ”

During her conversation with Olympics.com, Shiffrin confessed, “I didn’t know what to expect because obviously she was really busy in Paris right after her events. I thought maybe we just say hi, a quick hug, congratulations.” But when she actually met Biles, things developed into much more than just a simple hug and exchange of pleasantries. Having shared similar experiences in the past, the athletes found a common ground for an intimate conversation.
Shiffrin continued, “Of course, her experience in [Tokyo] and comparing our experiences with the Olympics, but also just competing and the expectations that people have when they anticipate you’re going to win everything – just the sort of similarities in that mentality.” But what stuck with Shiffrin, was Biles’ cheerful optimism. She added, “So it was really cool, she’s just like… she just loves to laugh, she just giggles and it’s contagious. It was really amazing to meet her.”
Now, Shiffrin is training to restore her former glory and rise above her PTSD at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina.
