Simone Biles Takes a Strong Decision Over Xfinity Gymnastics Championship 2025

Simone Biles didn’t compete at the 2025 US Classic, but she was very much around. She showed up at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates on July 19, sitting in the stands with her husband, Jonathan Owens. Simone was there to cheer on her World Champions Centre teammates — Joscelyn Roberson and Dulcy Caylor. She even dropped an Instagram story to let fans know she was watching. She captioned it, “we’re baccckkkk” with the location tagged as Illinois, Chicago. But but but…

It’s been almost a year since Simone Biles has set foot on a competition mat. The last time we saw her out there was at the women’s floor final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She finished just 0.033 points behind Rebeca Andrade and took silver — the first time in her senior international career she didn’t win floor. That ended her insane streak of 10 straight international golds on that event. But that was it. Since then? Nothing. And just last week, she skipped the US Classic too. And yeah… that’s not even the end of the list.

Simone Biles is officially out of the 2025 Xfinity Gymnastics Championships — and she confirmed it herself. On July 19, Inside Gymnastics posted an update on Instagram with a little message from Simone. She said, “Proud of you girls. Good luck at Championships,” — talking about her gym mates at the US Classic. And that’s it. No comeback. No Biles at Xfinity this year. Funny enough, just two years ago at the same competition, she hit a major milestone.

Simone Biles made history at the 2023 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, becoming the first gymnast ever to win eight U.S. all-around titles — and the oldest woman to do it too. She grabbed three titles that night: all-around, balance beam, and floor exercise. That win also broke the tie she had with Alfred Jochim, who had seven men’s all-around wins way back between 1925-30 and 1933. At 26 years and 166 days old, Simone passed Linda Metheny Mulvihill, who was 24 when she last won the all-around in 1971. Now, this year’s Championships are set for August 7-10 in New Orleans, Louisiana. National champs will be crowned across the men’s and women’s junior and senior levels, and new national teams will be announced too.

For the women, the Xfinity Championships are basically the second-to-last shot to impress for the 2025 World Championships team. After this, there’s the World Team Selection Event happening from September 29 to October 2. Then it’s off to Worlds in Jakarta, Indonesia, from October 19-25. So technically, Biles still has one more chance to get back on the mat before Worlds. But will she? Or is this Simone’s slow fade-out — the last chapter in her gymnastics story? That’s the question everyone’s asking.

Simone Biles is not going to show her cards soon

Simone Biles is keeping everyone guessing, and she seems to enjoy it. Back in April, she told L’Equipe, “I’m really trying to enjoy life, to spend time with my husband [NFL player Jonathan Owens)], go support him at his games, live my life as a woman,” Simone Biles said in an interview with French sports daily L’Equipe published in April. “I’ve accomplished so much in my sport. For me to come back, it would really have to excite me.”

Then at the Laureus Awards that same month, the Olympic question popped up again. Simone didn’t reveal much, but with that familiar grin, she said, “Well, I’m definitely relaxing as much as possible. I feel like I have no stressors in my life. I get to be with my husband a lot more than before, so it’s been amazing.” But just when you think the door’s closed, she leaves it open a crack: “It’s in LA it’s back in the States, which is so exciting. But if I’m going to compete again, I’m not so sure….Whether on the apparatus or in the stands, I still don’t know that..” So… will she or won’t she? The clock’s ticking, but Biles isn’t giving anything away just yet.
