Slipping a Hack to Earn Millions, Joe Rogan Drops Unheard Strategy for Golfers to Win “Mental Game”

“What I’m saying is it’s super difficult to kick someone, it’s super easy to hit a golf ball.” These words spelled trouble for Joe Rogan. But that’s what he used to believe back when he had a conversation with Tony Hinchcliffe in 2024. And it didn’t take him very long to realize how wrong he was. Hitting the ball precisely with a club didn’t sum up everything about golf. Like combat sports, golf also involves intense strategizing. But is it a mentally arduous enough game to hire a hypnotist?

The JRE episode #2278 guest, Chase Hughes, certainly believes so. The expert on human behavior even compared it to having a hypnotist as a corner man. When Rogan touched on the topic of Tiger Woods’ caddy, Hughes said, “That’s like having your corner man you hypnotist. Every time in the corner ‘Alright. In sleep.’” How efficacious would it be to have a hypnotist caddy a golfer around?

Rogan was all in for the idea. He said, “So he [Tiger Woods’ caddy] traveled around with him all the time. Well, I would imagine, look, if you’re doing something like golf, where there’s millions of dollars on the line, and that is clearly a very—very much a mental game. There’s a lot of thinking and calculating and being in the zone in golf. That totally makes sense, that would be effective.”

The human behavior expert had to agree. He claimed that golfing is indeed similar to fighting in a certain sense. It would indeed be interesting to the effect a hypnotist would have on a fighter. After all Mike Tyson claimed his coach Cus D’Amato would use hypnosis to convince him that he was the best fighter in the world.

So, it makes sense that hypnosis could be used to elevate performance in a sport like golf, which requires mental precision, along with solid technique. But despite being intrigued by the sport, the UFC color commentator once claimed that he would never play golf. Why did a golf enthusiast like Jamie Vernon, who is also the producer of Joe Rogan‘s talk show, fail to welcome the JRE host into the golfing world? Let’s find out!

What prevents Joe Rogan from playing golf?

In episode #1973 of the Joe Rogan Experience, Joey Diaz had an elaborate talk with the 57-year-old and one of the topics that the duo brushed up on was golf. Diaz praised Young Jamie for his skills in the sport. And Rogan swooped in to say, “Yeah, he’s addicted to that golf. See him out there with the simulator just ‘whoop’, ‘whoop’, ‘whoop’.”

When the JRE guest asked Rogan if he wanted to play, he replied, “I’ve had a couple of golf balls. I’m just not gonna play golf. I’m scared.” On further questioning, Rogan revealed that he was scared of getting addicted to the game. He gave the examples of Ron White, and Tony Hinchcliffe, claiming they were all addicted to it. On top of that, he had Vernon, who focuses on playing golf during the day.

But that didn’t mean that Rogan isn’t a fan of the players, especially Woods. The 82-time PGA Tour champion had a success story like no other. Coming back from injuries sustained from a horrible car accident, Woods established himself as one of the strongest sportspersons out there. And being a lover of such stories, Rogan fell head over heels. Yet, he will never play, given his previous admission to being addicted to the video game Quake during his early days.
