Back in 2018, a 14-year-old Coco Gauff signed with New Balance, and since then, the brand has become an integral part of her on-court identity. Following the release of her signature shoe line, the CG1, in August 2022, Coco’s style has continued to evolve. The vintage look of the CG1 was a hit with the American sensation. Fast-forward to 2024, when the next edition, the CG2, was released, New Balance’s brand value soared to $4.3 billion. Coco was sad to say goodbye to her “babies” but couldn’t help praising the elevated design of the CG2. Could it be time to say hello to the next edition now?
Following her win against Maria Sakkari on Monday, Coco joined the Tennis Channel for a chat after her win against Maria Sakkari. Discussing her impressive fanbase for her NB shoes, she was asked, “What’s the best thing that goes with a pair of CG2s?” Known for her street style aesthetic on social media, Coco replied, “Probably jeans and stuff.” She then dropped a teaser, saying, “We have a mid and we may or may not have something coming out later. I can’t disclose.” Realizing she might have spilled the beans, she joked, “Get it here first on Tennis Channel, keep your eye out for some…maybe a new type of CG2 later in a few weeks.”
Currently, the CG2 is available on the website in two colors: marsh green and black. Coco herself is a fan, calling them the “hardest shoes on tour” during her United Cup 2025 campaign. She added, “I think for me the ones I wear on court, I mean, they’re mainly for performance but you can rock em with jeans.” Coco dazzled on the Rod Laver court during the Australian Open, earning praise for her customized tennis kit and shoes inspired by her dad’s dream of her playing basketball.
Coco’s style advice? “Like, for me, I like to wear the high socks and like a mini skirt and for those who don’t, one other option is to keep your eyes peeled and we may or may not have something cooking.”The CG2 builds on this success, incorporating elements from the iconic New Balance 550, with a focus on comfort, stability, and bold colorways. Making them a perfect choice for athletic and casual wear!
As she delivers jaw-dropping shots on the court, her speed and court coverage are an unspoken advertisement for the shoes. Fans just can’t get enough of them!
Gauff in awe of young fan showing off her New Balance haul!
During her Australian Open campaign, a fan shared a reel showcasing Coco Gauff’s New Balance shoes on Instagram. The fan excitedly said, “I just got Coco’s shoes in. So here’s Coco’s shoes she played in yesterday and they are grey and white. And then here is the other one; she did not wear these last night. These are neon green and baby blue, these have a bit of dark green in the New Balance sign. And yeah, I love Coco.” Coco’s heart melted when she reposted this moment on her story with “aw”
On the court, Coco dazzled in her customized New Balance outfits. Her shoes, inspired by basketball, were a tribute to her dad Corey, who had initially wanted her to play basketball. “My shoes are inspired by basketball shoes, because that’s the sport my dad wanted me to play, but I’m glad I chose tennis,” Coco shared. This unique style, combined with her superhero-inspired bodysuit, made her a standout at the Australian Open.
Now Gauff is moving into the round of 16 at the Indian Wells Open to take on Belinda Bencic. Will her New Balance shoes propel her to victory this time around? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
