Steelers Faith in Aaron Rodgers Confirmed as NFL Insider Provides Timeline for Veteran QB’s Decision

Aaron Rodgers’ offseason drama is nothing new—uncertainty follows him like a shadow. One minute, he’s weighing retirement. Next, he’s off on a darkness retreat. Now, he’s left the Pittsburgh Steelers waiting, stretching out the suspense like only he can. Will he sign? Will he walk away? As usual, Rodgers is keeping everyone guessing.

But as per NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, Pittsburgh is super confident that Rodgers will eventually and finally say YES!

On SportsCenter, Amina Smith asked Jeremy the million-dollar question, “It’s been a week since his visit.” Context: Rodgers visited the Pittsburgh Steelers’ training facility, spending approximately six hours meeting, which included the head coach Mike Tomlin. And still no response at all.

Getting back to the question, Jeremy responded, “They’re willing to be pretty patient.” He also dropped a key detail, In fact, I’ve talked to several people in the quarterback market, including in and around Russell Wilson’s free agency who just figured that the Steelers must have gotten some sort of loose assurance from Rodgers at some point that he was gonna play there.” But let’s be real – ‘loose assurance’ from Rodgers is like getting a vague ‘we’ll see,’ from a friend who cancels plans at the last moment.

Amina followed up with another question of the decade to Louis Reddick, “Should the Steelers have a deadline for Aaron Rodgers at some point?” Riddick, in true analyst fashion, gave a long-winded ‘yes, but no.’ “Yeah. I think ideally you would like to. You know, I mean, you don’t wanna have this kinda, like, lingering out there forever. You know?”

More importantly, Riddick emphasized that Pittsburgh has to be looking at draft-eligible quarterbacks regardless of what Rodgers does. Because let’s face it—Rodgers loves to keep teams on edge, and Pittsburgh can’t afford to be left hanging on draft night. If someone like Shedeur Sanders starts to slip, or if they like Tyler Shough, they might have to make a move.

So, now Rodgers has three choices – joining the Steelers, or retiring. But the latest reports from the Inside Coverage podcast also give us the same signals as Jeremy: the Pittsburgh Steelers might just be the team that finally locks Rodgers down. And they also discussed the timeline in which he might make a decision.

Aaron Rodgers’ decision timeline: Steelers waiting, but not forever!

While the Steelers still contemplate Rodgers’ final answer, Charles Robinson shared some intriguing tidbits regarding the whole situation on the Insider Coverage podcast. Like, could he wait it out and pull a late-season gunslinger move? Frank Schwab asked, “Do you think there’s any possibility that he just says, you know what? I’m just gonna wait and be the hired gun out of the bullpen in September or October when a quarterback inevitably goes down?” To which Robinson replied, “I don’t think he would actively choose that route… but if a playoff-caliber team loses a QB, yeah, I could see Rodgers getting a call.”

And that’s how the Steelers might reap the rewards of their patience.

But this is where things get a little clearer about who he will end up with and when. According to Robinson, “I still believe at the end of this journey when we’re all done, he’s gonna end up signing with the Steelers. I kinda think it’s gonna happen after the draft.” You ask why after the draft. So, Pittsburgh doesn’t mess up their comp picks. Simple.

And the current situation at Pittsburgh is that if they don’t select a QB with their 21st pick, they will have another opportunity at pick 83. So, this could be a masterclass move in strategic patience: planning to choose a young QB and then adding Rodgers later. But that’s an enormous gamble.

Meanwhile, over on X Steelers Depot, dropped an update from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Pittsburgh is still optimistic. Apparently, Rodgers and the Steelers have already talked contract details and had a visit. So either Rodgers is genuinely considering Pittsburgh, or he just really likes Primanti Bros sandwiches.

Fowler also noted, “A lot of people I’ve talked to in the quarterback market… believe that Rodgers must have some sort of assurance from the Steelers, or vice versa, that they could end up together.” That’s NFL-speak for “We’re texting each other every day, but it’s not official yet.”

If this were any other quarterback, the logical move would be to wait until after the draft, sign Rodgers, and roll into the season with a veteran QB, a rookie, and Mason Rudolph as the insurance policy. But this is Aaron Rodgers. He might sign with the Steelers. He might retire. Anything is possible. One thing’s for sure—until that signature is on paper, Steelers fans better keep their sage and candles handy because Rodgers’ next move is as unpredictable as ever.
