Former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney is supposed to fight Jose Ramirez next. But his father, Bill Haney, can’t seem to stop taking digs at Ryan Garcia or the fans who support the Victorville native. The pair initially locked horns back in April last year and has since been surrounded by a world of controversy.
Even though Garcia initially beat Haney via majority decision, the authorities later overturned the result after they found the banned substance Ostarine in Garcia’s system. They also suspended ‘King Ry’ from the sport for a year and fined him his entire purse. His troubles didn’t end there, though! Haney promptly filed a lawsuit, alleging battery, fraud, and breach of contract.
This resulted in the two parties reaching an agreement to have a rematch later this year. As a result, the lawsuit will be dropped. However, before these two boxers can duke it out, they must first defeat their respective opponents on May 2 in New York. The pair even had the launch press conference a couple of weeks ago in Los Angeles. At the conference, Bill Haney went off on Todd Grisham for disrespecting his son.

In response, Grisham asked why the fans were booing his son. Bill Haney responded, “We are in LA, this is a great boxing market. But this is made of predominantly Hispanic fans that cheer for Ryan Garcia.” Now, it appears Bill Haney’s frustration towards the Mexican fans supporting Garcia has grown.

Devin Haney’s father also shared his son’s VADA test results from March 25, 2025. He did so to reinforce Haney’s status is a clean fighter.
Much of the criticism directed at Devin Haney seems to stem from the lawsuit the Haneys filed against Ryan Garcia. Additionally, Haney’s connection to SNAC Nutrition, owned by Victor Conte, has fueled further speculation. This is due to Conte’s controversial history and his alleged ties with VADA.
As Bill Haney continues his fiery criticism of Ryan Garcia and his camp, the Victorville native appears to have teamed up with a renowned trainer. This partnership is in preparation for his showdown with Rolly Romero.

Ryan Garcia has reunited with trainer Derrick James. This update comes in ahead of his highly anticipated May 2 clash with Rolly Romero in Times Square, New York. Garcia had initially hoped to train under Eddy Reynoso, but with Canelo Alvarez preparing for a May 3 title fight against William Scull, Reynoso couldn’t accommodate Garcia for his fight.
Instead, ‘KingRy’ returned to James, who previously coached him for his bouts against Devin Haney and Oscar Duarte. Garcia announced the news on social media, writing, “Major announcement. Working with Derrick James this camp. And it’s been going great let’s go.” The 26-year-old will headline the ‘Fatal Fury’ event, with Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney fighting their respective opponents on the undercard of the fight.
