Tensions Rise As Andy Reid’s Chiefs Accused of Illegally Tampering With Lamar Jackson’s Teammate in $20M Offer

The NFL offseason just got spicier than a plate of Kansas City barbecue. While teams are busy cooking up their rosters, the Kansas City Chiefs might have burned themselves with a side of illegal tampering. Imagine showing up to a party uninvited—that’s essentially what the Chiefs did with Baltimore Ravens tackle Ronnie Stanley.

According to MLFootball, the Chiefs and Washington Commanders made offers to Stanley before he re-signed with the Ravens. Kansas City reportedly offered around $20 million, while Washington went even higher with over $24 million per year. This happened before the legal offering window opened on March 10, when the Chiefs officially signed Jaylon Moore.

The Chiefs’ initial plan was to target Stanley to fill their left tackle void. “The Chiefs’ initial plan for free agency was to try to convince veteran left tackle Ronnie Stanley to leave the Baltimore Ravens,” wrote Nate Taylor of The Athletic. Stanley ultimately re-signed with Baltimore on March 8 for a three-year, $60 million deal.

With Stanley off the market, the Chiefs pivoted to Moore, signing him to a two-year, $30 million deal. Moore has only started 12 games in four years but has shown promise. “The Chiefs are optimistic that Moore is ready for such an increase in responsibility after he was a four-year understudy behind Trent Williams,” Taylor noted.

The addition of Moore nearly solidifies Kansas City’s starting offensive line for 2025. Second-year offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia is expected to become the new starting left guard, while Trey Smith remains under contract for the season.

The fraternity had mixed reactions to the Moore signing. “Just watched every snap of Jaylon Moore’s 2024 season. KC is definitely banking on his development to continue, but he does not lose many reps,” wrote Caleb James of Arrowhead Pride. Others questioned the move, noting Moore’s limited experience.

The tampering allegations add another layer to the Chiefs’ offseason story. If proven true, Kansas City could face disciplinary action from the NFL, potentially affecting their roster construction.

This story is unfolding—stay locked in for the latest.
