It’s just not happening for the Philadelphia Phillies at the moment. Every step they take seems to be going in the wrong direction. Despite having a lot of games in hand this season, the ongoing struggles continue to raise eyebrows of the fans and the team. Remember John Kincade, the voice behind the Philadelphia sports on 97.5 The Fanatic? He has voiced his concern over the Phillies’ struggles, delivering a scathing attack on the Phillies.
The vibes are sour for the Philadelphia Phillies at the moment. They stand at 6-10 from their 16 games and they are yet to win a series this season. The Phillies lost four games in a row, which led them to a 4-3 loss against the New York Mets at Citi Field. But it’s not the time to panic; rather, it’s time to do better, according to Bryce Harper.
Seriously?
Knowing that the Phillies are not showing any signs of getting back on track, Philadelphia radio host John Kincade is very much concerned about the team’s future. “I am more angry about what happened all winter long that many people tried to tell me was perfectly fine,” he said, referring to how the Phillies pretended everything was fine until the shocking results were revealed. “I still believe they’re good enough to pile up a lot of regular season wins. But this bullpen are far worse – far worse – than I expected them to be. I expected it to be bad; I thought it was reckless, and I called out the lackadaisical approach to this bullpen letting two guys go out the door this winter, but I never expected it to be this garbage. It’s garbage, and it’s the worst in baseball.”
“I’m more pissed about what went on all winter long that many people tried to tell me was perfectly fine. You know what’s wrong with this baseball team. You know it and you knew it, and you go, ‘I still believe they’re good enough to pile up a lot of regular season wins.’

This type of frustration was obvious to all of us, right?
Even though he never anticipated it to be that bad, John Kincade disclosed that letting go of the two players, Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez, in the winter was never a good strategic choice. Jordan Romano was added; he was just as bad as the others, but his velocity only slightly improved. Their pitcher, Aaron Nola, went 0-5 on Monday, while Christopher Sanchez also left the game on Tuesday due to discomfort in his left forearm. Their offensive production has been even worse, as they made just three extra-base hits in the entire three-game series.
While it’s quite easy to say that things like that happen in the early games, it cannot be denied that their bullpen has been bad. They have managed to hit just 21 home runs in this season while allowing 31. The Phillies, who rank slightly above the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Rockies, have the lowest slugging percentage of any team. Even though there are not many relievers available, they are never thought to be good enough to significantly improve the lineup. Thus, the Phillies may opt for adding some bullpen help, which can work, but not for long, if their bullpen continues to struggle.
However, despite the humiliating loss, the Phillies’ Bryce Harper remains confident and feels that they need to go some extra mile to let things go in their favor. What is he thinking?
Phillies Bryce Harper remains hopeful despite early-season struggles
It’s quite evident to hear something like that from a Phillies player, isn’t it? However, it’s always better to think of the present rather than being caught in the misery that follows after a sweep. “I’d rather you guys say it’s a little early,” Bryce Harper said, calling it a bit early to judge the team following the loss. Harper has put faith in his team, revealing that despite going through ups and downs, it’s overall performance that matters the most. He further said, “But we’re a good team in here and we expect to win. Winning takes care of it all. Winning takes care of mindset and everything else. We’ve just got to be better.”
The Phillies’ poor offense led to a widening gap between them and the Mets. However, manager Rob Thomson seems reluctant to agree with it, as he said, “No,” calling them a “good team”. Zack Wheller of the Phillies struck out nine while allowing two runs across the six innings and walked two as well. However, that wasn’t enough, as Brett Baty of the Mets hit him for a two-run home run in the second innings, ultimately giving the Mets a 2-0 lead. Although the Phillies tried hard, tying the game in the fourth inning, they were well short in the game.
If we look at the bright side, though, the Phillies have pitched 16 balls at 95 mph or more, which is encouraging for them. And many of those hit the bull’s eye, striking out batters as well. Their catcher, J. T. Realmuto, is doing well, and right fielder Nick Castellanos is reducing his chase rate, while Bryson Scott has shown good signs, batting at a .298 average with a .802 OPS.
We all hope that the Phillies regain their previous form soon and make a great comeback this season. What are your thoughts about the Phillies’ early season struggles?
