Before the New York Yankees ground out a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a three-game set, general manager Brian Cashman addressed the most talked-about agendas at Busch Stadium. All he answered somehow circled back to the same old theme: the Yankees do know they haven’t been playing well lately, they trust the reconstructed roster after the trade deadline, and no, there’s no fix to their current problems. All Cashman knows is, “We just need to win.” If you ask him, the Yankees still have the chance to win the AL East. However, former Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier, who launched his first podcast a few days ago on “The Current State of the Yankees,” has once again tossed a grenade at the Bronx.
We have all witnessed the Yankees’ terrible bullpen performance recently — not to mention the bad offensive output, pitching depth gaps, and defensive lapses. All of this is certainly resolvable. Surprisingly though, that’s not even Frazier’s issue with the bombers.
Frazier had donned pinstripes between 2017 and 2021 and was one of the top prospects in the club’s system. Last time, he had stated bluntly that: “They suck right now.” And now he returns with yet another brutal take.

For Frazier, it’s the organization’s inner workings that are the root cause of its slump. As bad as it gets, on Saturday, Frazier argued that the Yankees won’t even be in the postseason picture. “They will not win the World Series. They won’t. The reason why they won’t is because they do dumb— sh– that they didn’t do in the regular season,” is what he said.
Frazer then continued: “The Yankees aren’t capable of winning the World Series this year. They’re capable of winning it most years. We were capable of winning it almost every year that I was part of it. But every year there was something behind the scenes or some kind of play that happened that cost us not to win it.” According to him, the decisions the Yankees make during the regular season end up affecting the decisions they have to make in the playoffs. And no, this isn’t just anecdotal — since mid-June, the Yankees have posted a dismal 24-29 record; and offense has cooled off significantly, batting just .228 since the All-Star break.
Those decisions could be anything from overusing the bullpen, which leads to tiring them for October, to not addressing the lineup needs timely manner. However, lately, analysts, insiders, and fans all have believed that the biggest setback is the front office’s decision to keep Aaron Boone as manager.
Will the Yankees cut ties with Boone?
Not one, but multiple insiders have already questioned if the Yankees management, mainly Hall of Famer Steinbrenner, will stick with Boone if things keep sliding. The Yankees did stack a win on Saturday, but that is not enough to make up for all the close game losses.
As per Emmanuel Berbari from WFAN, “I wouldn’t say he’s safe if they miss the postseason.” Makes sense. The Yankees have many All-Star names and too much talent and money on the line to let this season go. Boone is under contract through 2027, but he might have to leave the Bronx if the Yankees miss the postseason this year.
Berbari also laid out that the Yankees began this season powerfully with a 3-0 start in March. From there, they have spiraled down massively with injuries, costly errors, and managerial issues. If you think about it, they have a better roster than they had back in 2023.
Now, they’ve done a great job at the trade deadline; it’ll make no sense if they don’t make it to the playoffs. Berbari did not guarantee Boone’s exit, but he believes it’s highly likely to happen after eight long years.
