The 2025 NFL Draft had its share of moments, but one unexpected incident involving Shedeur Sanders has left its mark. As Sanders was anxiously waiting to hear his name called, he received a call from what he thought was New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis, telling him he’d have to “wait a little longer.” But here’s the kicker: It was all a prank, orchestrated by Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.
In response to the incident, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo had some interesting thoughts on how to prevent pranks like this in the future. “Listen to me, Shadour Sanders, when he finally did get drafted, he knew it wasn’t a prank call,” Garafalo said. “Do you want to know why? Video call. Andrew Barry was staring him in the face.” Garafalo suggested that using video calls in the draft process could help improve security and prevent impersonators from fooling players with fake calls.

“You can’t mimic the Browns draft room or Andrew Barry’s face… It’d be harder to do that from a dormitory at Barry College than it would be just a phone call,” he explained. With the technology we have today, Garafalo believes video calls should become a major part of the draft process moving forward to ensure a more genuine experience.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned…
