“This Has to Be Some Kind of Joke” – Daniel Cormier Reacts to Conor McGregor’s White House Spectacle With Blunt Verdict on UFC Career

Despite staying out of action for more than four years, Conor McGregor’s thrill-seeking lifestyle never takes a break. Fresh off his adventures with BKFC, the former UFC dual-champion returned to the United States. However, this time he made his way to the White House in Washington, D.C. McGregor was personally invited as an honored guest for the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, courtesy of the Trump administration. While most of the fans are excited to see McGregor in a new role, former UFC champion Daniel Cormier isn’t.

Both McGregor and Donald Trump have a lot of mutual respect for each other and have often shown their admiration for each other. ‘Mystic Mac’ used this opportunity to highlight some of the important issues happening in his country, Ireland. He said, “What’s happening in Ireland is a travesty. Our government is one of zero action and zero accountability,”. But Daniel Cormier felt the whole interaction with Trump was some sort of ‘joke’. He took to his YouTube channel to discuss the entire incident with former UFC fighter Ben Askren and didn’t quite mince his words.

Cormier said, “Why are you watching Conor McGregor’s press conference? Bro, I saw Conor McGregor—his picture and I was like wait, where’s he at? So then I scroll down and I see that he was at the White House. I said, this has to be some kind of joke right? Cuz it looked like he was holding a press conference at the White House.”

‘DC’ just didn’t stop there. He even went on to claim that the McGregor era has finally come to an end, as he is now focusing on something new in his career. Cormier further added, “And then I started to think ‘Oh my god Ben and I are doing my show tomorrow. He’s going to pat himself on the back. Because now I think Ben, yes I am ready to admit, I think it’s over bro. I think it’s over”.

It seems ‘Mystic Mac’ is currently focused on entering the political spectrum in his home country. During his St. Patrick’s Day visit to the Oval Office, McGregor didn’t hold back in criticizing the Irish government. With Donald Trump and Elon Musk by his side, ‘The Notorious’ seized the moment to make a bold statement—one that fueled speculation about his ambitions for the Irish presidency. However, it seems his comments have not gone well with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.

Conor McGregor’s latest claims are nowhere close to being real claims Micheál Martin

‘Mystic Mac’ addressed the Trump administration and made some wild claims echoing his stance on immigration. He blamed the Irish parliament for its incompetence in dealing with the matter and said, “Our money is being spent on overseas interests that have nothing to do with the Irish people. The illegal immigration racket is running rampant across the country.”

McGregor’s bold remarks sent shockwaves through Irish politics, sparking a reaction that couldn’t be ignored. The impact was so profound that even the Taoiseach (Prime Minister), Micheál Martin, felt compelled to respond. In his statement, Martin criticized ‘Mystic Mac,’ arguing that his words had overshadowed the true significance of St. Patrick’s Day.

He said, “St Patrick’s Day around the world is a day rooted in community, humanity, friendship, and fellowship. Conor McGregor’s remarks are wrong and do not reflect the spirit of St Patrick’s Day, or the views of the people of Ireland.” The 36-year-old has never shied away from voicing his frustrations with the Irish government, particularly when it comes to its handling of immigration.

The former two-division champion has been one of the most outspoken critics of the administration since the anti-immigration riots of 2022. Now, standing in the White House, it seems ‘The Notorious’ is embracing a new role—one that blurs the line between fighter and political firebrand.
