“And this one will last a lifetime,” echoed the iconic voice of Sam Rosen as the New York Rangers lifted the Stanley Cup in 1994. It was one of the many memorable moments in what has been a four-decade-long broadcasting career. And now, as his time with the mic draws to an end, a special tribute to his illustrious career will see him teaming up with his former booth partner, who was there with him when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup for the first time in fifty-four years.
Mollie Walker on X spilled the tea, “TNT announces #NYR voice Sam Rosen will reunite with his longtime booth partner John Davidson for a special NHL on TNT broadcast of the Rangers-Flyers game on April 9.” Now, this is what everyone deserves. It’s going to be emotional.

As for Rosen, his opportunities kind of remain endless. After the legend retires, he is open to many possibilities. “I haven’t set anything in motion yet, but we’ve talked about different things,” Rosen shared on the New Ice City Podcast. Looks like he’s been planning to write a book, or maybe launching a podcast with Davidson! That’s not enough until he said he is even engaging with colleges in Florida, where he and his wife have a second home. “I’ve talked to, we’ve had preliminary talks with a couple of colleges in Florida where my wife and I have a second home and I would imagine eventually I’m going to transition from New York to Florida,” he further shared.
While Rosen describes transitioning away from the Rangers’ city, the echoes of his calls will keep resonating in the heart of every fan who has had the pleasure of listening to him. Just like players—Mats Zuccarello and Rick Nash, have paid tribute to Rosen—fans too, feel the emotions just as deeply. After all, it’s a voice that called the Rangers’ games for 40 years! But with April 9 approaching, the buzz and the excitement are real.
One last game but fans want Sam Rosen to stay more!
All the reactions came pouring in with joy, a little bit of disbelief, and other related emotions. Here’s what one fan excitedly wrote, “I’m so happy they’re actually doing this; I was starting to lose hope that it’d actually happen in Sam’s last season. Good looks, @NHL_On_TNT!” We get it; we truly get it. Considering how the last time the iconic duo called a game together was in 2006, the reunion feels like a dream.
Let’s just say that tissues are in high demand because one fan just couldn’t handle their emotions when they described, “Is someone cutting onions in here?”—and honestly, same! In the meantime, someone else admitted, “I saw this yesterday and thought it was a 4/1 joke.” Well, it isn’t.
And then, there are the lifelong fans truly calling it a historic moment. “And this one will last a lifetime! As Sam said during the end of Game 7 of 1994 finals,” one fan recalled the 1994 call, hence proving that words never fade! And to sum it all up, another one expressed, “For all the young Rangers fans who never got to listen to this duo, I hope you enjoy it. I grew up on Sam and JD, and it will be emotional for sure. Great job, @NHL_On_TNT.” Indeed, it’s a journey back in time that Rangers’ fans, young and old, will never forget.
