Tom Aspinall Claims He Understands ‘Position’ on Jon Jones Fight After Meeting With Hunter Campbell

The UK fans didn’t get the result they hoped for, last weekend at UFC London, when their favorite, Leon Edwards, failed to get back on his winning ways and got choked out by Sean Brady. However, they still have something to look forward to as interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall provided an update on the fight against Jon Jones after meeting up with the UFC executives in London.

Tom Aspinall was a bit busy last weekend as he met up with some of the UFC fans in the UK. He interacted with the fans till late at night and it was then that he met Hunter Campbell, and according to the Manchester native, things became clearer to him as to where he and Jon Jones stood in this situation. Nevertheless, Aspinall claims that the situation is not against him because the UFC will shortly make an announcement, and it is going to be something huge.

“We did a little meet and greet… Straight after that, we went across town and met Hunter [Campbell]. That was probably around 10.30 pm,” Aspinall stated on ‘The Ariel Helwani Show’. “Hunter has always been extremely personable and reasonable with me… we had a fantastic meeting. Everything went amazing. I understand my position now. I understand what the company’s doing now, and you gotta stay tuned, my friend. There’s some big news coming.”

Moreover, there have been nine pay-per-view events since we saw Tom Aspinall in action. The reason behind him sitting on the sidelines, according to the consensus, is Jon Jones, who’s stalling the interim champion. Well, Aspinall has been pretty clear that if it’s not ‘Bones’, he’ll take on anyone. But looking at how long he’s been out, he doesn’t really think it’s been that long.

After the meeting, I’m feeling very optimistic about things. I’m in a really, really, really good spot with everything and my future moving forward,” Tom Aspinall added. “People are saying, ‘Oh, Jon Jones is holding up your career’, and stuff. It’s only been 7 months, it’s not too bad. I don’t wanna say too much, but it is exciting stuff in the future.”

Before Aspinall’s update on the fight, Dana White even sat down with TNT Sports, and things are looking bright for the Englishman. Here’s what Dana White had to say.

It’s a ‘matter of when’ for Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones

While talking to the interviewer, Dana White knew that the questions about the aforementioned fight were going to pop up. Surely, it did, and that’s when he reassured fans that “The fight’s going to happen.” Well, then what is the hold-up? The issue appears to be some negotiation going on still. With Tom Aspinall recently meeting Hunter Campbell in London, maybe it’s Jon Jones next.

“It’s just a matter of when now and getting it signed and done and the fight will happen,” Dana White added. “It’s done but it’s not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date… It’s just a matter of getting it signed now… I’ve said it many times in between and I will say it again now, the fight’s going to happen.”

The heavyweight title needs to get unified as it has been well over a year that the two belts have been active. With a positive nod from Tom Aspinall and Dana White, people could start to believe that the fight was on. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
