Tom Brady Confirms Stance on Ditching Patriots for Bucs for Simple Reason as NFL Legend Admits Problems With Bill Belichick

“It’s gonna be a busy offseason for me, learning a lot of new things, which is a great challenge and a great opportunity for me… It’s a new program that I’m a part of. And they have their way of doing things, and they’re committed to winning. And I gotta come in and do my part, and that’s why I’m here.” That’s what Tom Brady said when he joined the Bucs. Although, people were more curious to know about something else.

After 19 seasons, six Super Bowl rings, and becoming a New England legend, Tom Brady left the Pats in 2020. It’s been five years, but that move is still fresh on people’s minds. Everyone wanted to know the real reason behind Brady’s decision, but the legendary QB stayed tight-lipped, letting the rumors swirl. But now, Brady is finally spilling a little truth in his weekly newsletter. So, just in case you are not aware, the former NFL QB has a weekly newsletter where he often shares interesting tidbits about his life. This week, Brady penned down his thoughts about free agency. And while talking about it, he casually slipped in the truth about why he joined the Bucs.

When Tampa Bay came into the picture as a serious option for me, all I did over those few days in March was assess and reassess my priorities.” And of course, it was not an easy decision. Brady spent most of his career wearing Pats colors, and changing home after 19 long years was a huge thing. So, he made a list of about “20 factors that were important to him.” After all the calculations and days of pondering, Brady finally made the decision. “In the end, I chose Tampa, almost exactly five years ago now, because, in the aggregate, it graded out higher than New England along those twenty or so dimensions. It’s not much more complicated than that,” penned the legendary QB.

In his very first season with Tampa Bay, Brady won his seventh and last Lombardi. But while Brady found instant success with Tampa Bay, the chatter around his New England exit just wouldn’t die down. Especially the rumors about him and coach Bill Belichick not seeing eye to eye.

Brady gets real about his Belichick fallout

Last year, when the New England Patriots docuseries “The Dynasty” was released, it answered most of the lingering questions about Belichick and Brady’s relationship. What shocked everyone, though, was a glimpse into the dysfunctional dynamic between the greatest coach and the legendary QB. “Tommy is the greatest in the 100-year history of the game, and I think he represented a threat to Bill’s full power. He didn’t want Tommy there.” These were the words of team owner Robert Kraft about Brady and Belichick’s relationship.

The rumors were always making it to the papers, but Brady never put a stamp on it. The final episode of “The Dynasty” unmasked most things, like Brady and his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen going to Kraft’s house. And Gisele saying, “That effing Belichick, he doesn’t treat my Tommy like a man.” Well, now Tom’s putting it in his own words in his newsletter. The former QB admitted that there was indeed tension between the duo. “After twenty years together, a natural tension had developed between where Coach Belichick and I were headed in our careers. And where the Patriots were moving as a franchise.”

Brady revealed that the only way to solve this was “by some kind of split or one of us reassessing our priorities.” And he chose to split from his Head Coach and team. Interestingly, that’s when the Pats’ downfall began. The team faced a QB crisis after nearly two decades. You could say they still haven’t found their guy to this day. Because how Drake Maye will fare is yet to be seen. Belichick didn’t have any remarkable seasons after that. Last year, the legendary coach mutually decided to part ways with the team after suffering some of the worst losses of his career.

It’s like with Tom Brady‘s departure, the hard-built dynasty came crashing down. And to this day, it’s still struggling to rebuild itself.
