The Las Vegas Raiders are arguably the team that has been unable to find stability for a few years in the league. Be it their quarterback situation or coaches’ shifts, the franchise has seen some shaky ground. Like last season, they wrapped up their regular games with only 4 wins and 13 losses. However, through all ups and downs, one player who’s brought some real steadiness is Kolton Miller. And this player is set to hit the free agency market next year.
Since the day he got drafted in 2018, Miller has been holding it down at left tackle. But it wasn’t pretty at first. The athlete took his lumps early on, and a lot of people were quick to call him a bust. Still, he never folded. Kolton Miller stayed quiet, put in the work, and kept pushing. Over time, all that grit paid off. Now, he’s one of the best left tackles in the entire league. And guess what? He has been ranked 14th among offensive tackles in 2024, per PFF.
Once just a kid out of UCLA, Kolton Miller has become the veteran voice in a young Raiders offensive line room. And right now, they need his leadership more than ever. But here’s the catch: the 29-year-old is heading into the final year of his three-year, $54 million deal. With Tom Brady now part-owner and John Spytek newly hired as GM, all eyes are on what comes next. So, what’s the chance of him getting a new deal? Well, if you ask Spytek about Miller’s contract extensions, the 44-year-old, via reporter Ryan McFadden, said: “I’m big into knowing the person before throwing out huge contracts. It will take some time, but I’m looking forward to getting to know all the guys on the roster and figure out the right way to build it.”
#Raiders GM John Spytek when asked at the league meetings about contract extensions for players like Kolton Miller:
“I take it case by case. I think it’s tough for the guys on the roster. Every year there’s been a new coach [and] new GM, and it’s hard for them to feel valued.… https://t.co/0GOEPcITd6

Spytek only joined the Raiders in January 2025, so he’s still learning the team inside and out. Speaking about his approach to handling contracts, he admitted, “I take it case by case. I think it’s tough for the guys on the roster. Every year, there’s been a new coach [and] new GM, and it’s hard for them to feel valued. Unless you’re like one of the top three or four guys at your position in the NFL, how do we make sense of the kind of deal that we have to do to keep you here?”
So, it looks like the Raiders are planning to watch Miller closely this season before making any moves. But if they wait too long, Miller could hit free agency in 2026. According to Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Miller is already ranked as the 19th overall potential free agent for next year.
In addition, Popper praised him too. He called him a model of durability, with only seven missed games since the Raiders drafted him in 2018. He’s played over 960 snaps in nearly every season, the kind of reliability teams dream about.
Still, while the team might think patience is smart, it’s not sitting well with Miller. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, “#Raiders LT Kolton Miller is not currently participating in the voluntary offseason program as he seeks a contract extension, per source. Miller, 29, is a seven-year starter and 2026 free agent. Las Vegas has not engaged in contract talks with the former first-round pick.” So yeah, there’s definitely some tension building in that locker room, and the clock is ticking.
