‘Tomorrow Is Not Guaranteed’: LIV Golf Pro Suffers Sudden Health Setback Just Days After Celebrating Sobriety

You see the wins, the trophies, the pressure, but here’s what you don’t see. A three-time PGA Tour winner, recently opened up about his battle with addiction and mental health in a heartfelt social media post as he celebrated two years of sobriety and shared his journey of overcoming addiction.

Anthony Kim talked about how he used to rely on drugs and alcohol to “numb the pain” and how he even considered ending his life for almost two decades. Crazy how Kim hid his addiction while competing at the highest level—no one saw it coming. He shared powerful rehab photos—family visits, small wins, and rebuilding his life. Kim has come so far, but his battle isn’t over yet.

Per the latest tweet by NUCLR GOLF, the American golfer revealed that he’s been dealing with a blood clot in his leg, which he discovered just a day before sharing the news with his Instagram followers. Kim felt unwell weeks before LIV Golf Riyadh but couldn’t pinpoint why. Thankfully, doctors stepped in, and he reassures, “I will be fine.”

This health scare comes on the heels of Kim celebrating two years of sobriety, a journey he’s been open about, sharing his struggles with addiction and mental health, and finding faith, self-love, and purpose in rehab, where he realized nothing is sure and that we should all “be grateful for today and appreciate all the blessings.” Kim said, “One of the many things I realized is how grateful we all need to be for what we have now and to spend time with real friends because tomorrow is not guaranteed.”

But these struggles aren’t new to Kim; the golfer had his fair share of falling down and getting up in the last season as well.

Anthony Kim says his struggle made him fall ‘in love with the game’ again

Last year, as well, Anthony Kim was struggling with “very dark demons”—a battle with addiction and a string of injuries that had kept him away from professional golf for over a decade. Once a rising star in the golf world, ranked sixth globally, Kim had vanished from the public eye after a series of setbacks, including an Achilles tendon injury that led to a lucrative disability insurance payout. But Kim’s story didn’t end there. In an interview with David Feherty, Kim opened up about his long and difficult journey back to golf, revealing the emotional and physical struggles he faced, and the people who helped him turn his life around.

Anthony Kim’s return to golf came in March, when he debuted on the LIV circuit, finishing last in his first event. But, Kim is optimistic about his future in the sport, saying he’s “falling in love with the game” for the first time. “I don’t think I ever loved it. What’s very weird to me is I’m falling in love with the game. That’s such a weird spot for me because golf was filled with pressure. Golf was filled with lots of different emotions for me,” he said. With his wife, Emily, and daughter, Bella, by his side, Kim is embracing his second chance. His journey is pure redemption, a reminder that there’s always a way forward.
