Perhaps no fight has been as cursed as the one between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. UFC CEO Dana White tried to make that fight happen on five separate occasions, but the plans blew up in his face every single time due to a multitude of reasons. However, Ferguson believes there is always time for competition, because of what ‘The Eagle’s father said years before he passed away.
Yes, Khabib’s father, the late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, always felt like there wasn’t any fight bigger than the one against Tony Ferguson back when the Hall of Famer was in the prime of his career. “I think it’s one of the most important events in this sport… Millions of fans are waiting for it,” Khabib’s father said in 2019. Recalling those words, ‘El Cucuy’ claims he’s still open to competition, and since MMA may not be possible, they can get into a grappling contest.
“I am the only person his dad said before he passed away that this is the fight to make,” Tony Ferguson told MMA Junkie. “Now, regardless if it’s a fight, grappling, or anything, I know that he does keep his dad’s word.” Meanwhile, Khabib Nurmagomedov has bid adieu to fighting a long time ago, and it’s unlikely that he’s ever getting back inside the Octagon. He’s been busy with other endeavors.
Well, that doesn’t seem to be a problem because Tony Ferguson has only extended an offer to compete as the opposition coach against Khabib Nurmagomedov on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. “I know that never talked about it for vision, his wife, or anybody else that goes about it. But I know, competition-wise, if you keep it cordial, there’s no reason why we should not be able to coach against each other on The Ultimate Fighter,” Ferguson added.

While it’s exciting to think about witnessing these two legends competing against each other in another capacity since their fight never came to fruition, Tony Ferguson did tease that he’s got a fight coming up. Let’s take a look at that front.
Tony Ferguson is rumored to fight Dillon Danis
Tony Ferguson’s first non-UFC fight since 2012 was supposed to happen this month under the GFL banner against Dillon Danis, but it didn’t materialize. The owners of the promotion mentioned funding issues to be the main culprit, but they did claim that they’re eyeing to hold the event next month in June. Recently, Ferguson shared an X post aimed at Danis, hinting that their fight was going to happen soon.
“Ahhhh Yes, The Journey Is The Part You Remember Anyways. Ol’e Moose Knuckle Danis Still Gon’ Get Demolished. I Know Kung Fooooooooooo,” Tony Ferguson wrote on social media. “Ahhh Wah Wah Wahhh Waaaaaaaaaaahhhh Zaaaaaahhhh MF’as!!! Act Accordingly & Form Rank B—-es. Champ -CSO- Fight News Soon.”
We are yet to get any concrete details on the possibility of ‘El Cucuy’s fight against Dillon Danis, but in the meantime, his proposal to Khabib Nurmagomedov does look quite interesting. Both fighters share cordial relations with each other as ‘The Eagle’ called ‘El Cucuy’ “one of the best ever” after his UFC exit.
