Do you remember Tony Parker’s Villard-de-Lans’ project? Recalling how the project first took shape, the former NBA player and his family have always expressed their love for skiing. And drawing on their love for the winter sport, the Frenchman had engaged in a few projects. One of those was his investment in SEVLC in 2019. And now, six years later, he is all set to work on new plans for his ski resort. However, it seems new hurdles have begun to surround the project, which might delay the construction process again.
The Ananda Resort, which is a project for a ski resort complex in Villard-de-Lans, Isère, was first announced nearly six years ago. Cut to the present, Parker is working on plans to revive it amidst a public consultation. The public consultation, happening between March 31 and April 30, 2025, is an important step where local residents and other stakeholders can share their thoughts or concerns regarding the project.
In January 2025, the Ananda Resort project received its first approval but with conditions from the Alps regional committee. However, the town of Villard-de-Lans views it positively. Despite the green light from the townsmen, the final approval still depends on the prefect’s decision after the public consultation. As per the town, even if approved by the prefect, opponents may still file legal challenges, potentially delaying the project for years.
Moreover, the growth of the industry also remains an issue. As per FutureMarketInsights, the mountain and ski resort industry is set to reach 17 billion this year. However, the attendance of clients and chances of growth have been reportedly stagnant in some countries.

Getting back to Parker’s love for the sport and initiative, this isn’t his first time in the ski industry. With reportedly 76.9% stakes in SEVLC, his focus was to give back to France. Amidst this new development in the ski industry, the Frenchman took long strides as a businessman in the basketball world as well.
Tony Parker fuels speculation of NBA expansion
As the owner of the ASVEL Basket, Parker has made significant strides in the basketball scene. With the NBA expanding its reach globally, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has openly considered Europe as a future destination. The former NBA player has the potential and might become the crucial connection between the league and its European presence.
“We either reach an agreement or the NBA comes alone […] The goal is to join forces to create something never seen before while ensuring that no historic European club is left behind,” Parker said as per a post from @eurohoopsofficial. Parker further added that he had a conversation with the NBA commissioner and Mark Tatum, saying, “The idea was to talk about European basketball and bring everyone back to the table, the NBA, EuroLeague, and FIBA.”
However, before that, both parties must overcome the challenges in the expansion, and one of those is travel. Another challenge is the financial disparity. But the league is also considering an independent league in Europe rather than an NBA team expansion. At this point, nothing’s been confirmed yet. We can only wait and see how things unfold in the future.
