Travis Hunter Clears Stance on NFL Future After Failed Patriots Interest Following Travis Kelce’s Skepticism

Now who is the Colorado Buffaloes star who is making a loud noise in the 2025 NFL Draft other than Shedeur Sanders? It has to be the Buffs QB’s buddy Travis Hunter. However, Hunter’s experience is a lot more different from that of Shedeur. After all, the NFL scouts have some clarity when it comes to drafting Deion Sanders’ son.

While Hunter’s two-way cornerback-wide receiver skills came off as a big USP in college, this turned out to be a bane in the pro league as the NFL suitors are not very sure about landing him as a dual-threat. However, Hunter is confident of what he can deliver. has a clear picture of what he is going to bring to the table. Despite losing out on the New England Patriots’ light, Hunter is still sticking to believing in himself in his latest podcast. And guess what? Travis Kelce’s take on Hunter’s versatility added fuel to the fire.

Travis Hunter stands firm on his plan

Hunter has been Deion’s apple of the eye. But his NFL stocks are stuck in limbo. The two frontrunners in the Hunter race were the Cleveland Browns and the Tennessee Titans. The Buffs’ dual threat was listed at cornerback for the NFL Combine. However, in the case of Cleveland, the athlete might have to sacrifice one position as the Browns GM Andrew Berry believes that the wide receiver position is best suited for Hunter. Surprisingly, Tennessee held a totally opposite view, viewing him starting at the corner. But amidst all this hoopla, the Buffs’ two-way star is still confident in seeing him as the dual phenom in the pro league. That’s how he won NFL Hall of Famer and former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson’s confidence.

On the March 21 episode of The Travis Hunter Show, the Buffs star hosted Johnson who had one question. “You probably want to play both sides of the ball, correct?” “Yes, sir,” Hunter sounded all confident. Johnson aka ‘Megatron’ then counter-questioned, “Now tell me this then that’s 120 plays what do you think? How many plays you think?” Hunter came off as an indomitable spirit assuring, “I know I can play a 120.” Turns out that Colorado’s offense which he tagged as “firepower” is the source of the inspiration. Plus, Hunter will make the most use of the playbook to materialize his plan of action into reality.

Seeing so much passion in Hunter playing two ways, Johnson shared some wise words. “Get your a– down. When you see a crowd dive at the knees. Dive forward at the knees. Don’t take them hits.” Maybe some support is what Hunter is in dire need of at the moment. After all, there are talks that he’s likely to be replaced by a 323-pound giant in Mike Vrabel’s program. Initially, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah saw the Buffs dual-threat landing as the No.4 pick with the Patriots. But the present scenario is different.

As per his latest mock draft, New England might opt for LSU Tigers captain and star bookend Will Campbell. That’s because Vrabel has a penchant for arm length more than toughness and physicality. And definitely, Campbell hits the right spots. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce is also stirring the Hunter plot.

Travis Hunter vs. Travis Kelce debate heats up

From one Travis to another Travis. That’s how the plot is thickening. Now that there is so much buzz (read: skepticism) about Hunter, City Chiefs star, Travis Kelce, too enrolled him in ‘Team Travis Hunter’ doubters. The tight end made an appearance in one of the episodes of the New Heights podcast with bro Jason Kelce. Even though he supported Hunter’s push to play both sides, he tried to give him a reality check about how the pro league was going to test him.

“It’s 100 percent possible. He’s gonna have to prove that he can do it. Nobody has ever played every single play on both sides. When Deion (Sanders) did it, he was in, like, nickel. He was in certain packages, I believe.” The biggest hurdle for Hunter as per Kelce, is going to be the exhaustion factor. After all, Hunter will have to be his best version both offensively and defensively.

And obviously, the Colorado Buffaloes dual-threat did not keep shut. He too broke his silence on the Travis Hunter Show. “I’m gonna prove it. That I can do it.” Hunter did not take offense at Kelce’s words. Rather he understands that this is something he needs to work for. “Like he said, I have to prove that I can do it. So that’s my main thing. I’m gonna prove that I’m gonna do it and I can do it. So he’s not telling no lie. I still got to prove it.”

We must note that apart from giving Hunter a reality check, Kelce also gave him a million-dollar advice. Hoping the NFL stage is everything Hunter dreams of!
