Back in 2022, when Travis Hunter flipped his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State, the college football world did a collective double-take. A five-star recruit choosing an HBCU? That was unheard of. But Hunter wasn’t interested in following the crowd. He wanted to blaze his own trail. Under the guidance of Deion Sanders, he showcased his skills on both sides of the ball, making waves as a true freshman.
Then came the move to Colorado, where he didn’t just play; he dominated. By the end of his college career, Hunter had racked up accolades, including the Heisman Trophy, the Chuck Bednarik Award, and the Biletnikoff Award. But as much as inspiring and dominating his college football career is, his academic career is even better. Yup, you read that right.
Ahead of the Jaguars‘ mini-camp, Hunter returned to Boulder, Colorado, ready to walk across the graduation stage. On Thursday, the Buffaloes shared a video of Hunter alongside a few of his Colorado teammates, as the Jags’ receiver/cornerback just graduated and earned his degree. “What’s up, Buff Nation? It’s your boy Trav! The boys out here graduating, man!” Hunter said in the video.
Right after that went down, Hunter’s mom, Ferrante Edmonds, took to her official IG handle and shared an emotional message for her son. “My baby graduated today! I just want to let you know that I’m so proud of you @db3_tip! I Love You So Much! Graduation Class Of 2025,” she captioned her post, featuring Hunter posing in his graduation gown.
Hunter’s academic details, you ask? Well, the former Colorado receiver/cornerback earned his degree in Anthropology as he now focuses on his NFL career. Besides, if we are not wrong, the guy had also revealed his GPA during the 2025 NFL draft, stating, “I think it’s a 3.7 or a 3.9.” And that’s not all.
After the Buffaloes released the video of his graduation, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg shared some hidden details about Hunter’s academic profile. “Something that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough: Travis Hunter was a two-time first-team academic All-American. Really impressive college career in multiple ways,” Rittenberg wrote in his post. Indeed!
No wonder Edmonds was proud of her son. After all, Travis Hunter isn’t just a dual-way player. He’s also a two-time first-team academic All-American. With that being said, Travis Hunter has now closed the final chapter of his Colorado career and is now heading to Jacksonville.
Jaguars’ Mini-Camp Just Got Interesting—Thanks to Travis Hunter
Draft weekend came, saw, and left us with plenty to talk about. But now that it’s officially in the books, all attention shifts to rookies who are heading to start getting familiar with their new teams. And that means only one thing—the rookie minicamp. The Jags are scheduled to kick off their mini-camp on Saturday, May 10th, at Miller Electric Center (MEC) practice facilities.
The two- or three-day orientations for draft picks, undrafted free agents, and tryout players are intended to acclimate players with the new team, along with the coaches and other departments. As for the Jaguars, all eyes will be on Travis Hunter. And why not? The guy literally dominated in the last season at Colorado.
We’re talking 96 catches, 1,258 yards, and 15 touchdowns as a receiver. Then flip the script, and he’s snagging four interceptions and making 32 tackles on defense. The guy played nearly 1,400 snaps that season—382 more than anyone else in the country. And just like that, he’s going to play the dual role for the Jaguars as well. And to address his dual-threat ability, Liam Coen and Co. have a schedule for Hunter, as the team’s ready to adapt to whatever is needed.
“We’ve had those conversations, and we have to be fluid,” Coen said. “From a scheduling standpoint, we have it all laid out, but we also have to have the ability to be agile and be fluid on specific days. If we feel like he (Hunter) didn’t get enough work on one side of the ball the previous day, then we need to be able to move forward and get him those reps the next day.” For all these reasons, it’s safe to call Travis Hunter’s rookie mini-camp as one of the most interesting mini-camps to exist in recent years.
