Well, Travis Hunter’s NFL future is yet to get sealed. But so what? The Colorado Buffaloes‘ two-way star’s mother Ferrante Edmonds just had a dream-come-true moment. Hunter’s mom reunited with the boxing star Muhammad Ali’s wife. Now this reunion came after a special event. Edmonds’ must be boasting a prouder smile after her son Hunter got felicitated at Muhammad Ali Center. This marks the first union between his mom and Ali’s wife. However, the Buffs two-way star did keep Lonnie Ali’s request from a few months back.
Okay, so who bigger supporter than one’s mom? In Hunter’s case too his mother Ferrante Edmonds has been his pillar of strength. She herself has now created an identity of her own, as Edmonds is now known as a good orator. Do you remember her speech from the Can We Talk Sports show’s Sports Mom Conference 2025? It had gone viral. Some of Edmonds’ quotes did an amazing job of setting people on a positive track in life. “So the doors that God has for you, nobody can shut… So why are you worrying about addressing something… I don’t have time to go back. If I’m going back I am missing the blessing that have for me in the front.” Being a strong woman himself, Hunter’s mom could not resist the chance of meeting another strong woman, Lonnie.
Muhammad Ali’s wife has stood by her husband through four decades of love and support. However, don’t forget that she has created an identity for herself beyond her husband’s shadow. Holding an MBA degree from UCLA, Lonnie began her business career in sales with Kraft Foods, Inc. At present, she is into philanthropic and educational causes. She is also the co-founder of the Muhammad Ali Center. So, on March 4, Hunter’s mom and Lonnie crossed paths and the two posed for a picture. Edmonds posted the snap on IG with the caption, “Had an amazing time with Muhammad Ali wife Lonnie Ali #muhammadcenter.” After all, the proud mommy is indebted to Lonnie for felicitating Hunter.
The Muhammad Ali Center has announced the Buffs’ dual-threat as the inaugural recipient of the ‘Emerging G.O.A.T. Award’ in Louisville. He received the award not only for operating at the highest level in college football but also for his operation with compassion. Hunter did not forget to acknowledge his success to his mother and fiancé Leanna Lenee. The event got extra special as he received a special gift from Muhammad’s wife.
Travis Hunter has kept Lonnie Ali’s NFL request
The Buffs two-way star sees the boxing legend as his idol for bettering himself throughout his life, both in the ring and in his personal life. Hunter shared how he has been Muhammad Ali’s biggest fan, “His name was Cassius Clay first so the first thing I did was get a jacket that said that. He was the same person but he upgraded his mindset and he changed to a better person.” Already Hunter was on cloud nine, but Lonnie came with a surprise by gifting him a set of signed boxing gloves from her personal inventory. After all, Hunter has made her proud.
Back in January, he had an indeed unforgettable moment. Hunter was there for the Sports Illustrated Breakout Star of the Year ceremony. He took the stage with his iconic confidence as he joked, “I think I took home seven awards this year. That’s kinda a lot.” As it left the audience in splits, at the backstage Lonnie was waiting patiently to meet him. As soon as she got the chance to meet Hunter she approached the two-way star with a heartfelt request.
Muhammad Ali’s wife told the young star, “I need to come out and watch you guys play.” Travis Hunter came with a humble and bold response. “We’ll be in the NFL soon,” he assured her with a grin. He topped the promise with his signature swagger, “We’ll make sure you definitely get there.” Going by the latest projections, Hunter is expected to be picked No.4 overall. That’s how he makes both his family, Colorado fam as well as Lonnie Ali proud.
