Unusual Story Behind Belal Muhammad’s Nickname ‘Remember the Name’

Every UFC star has a unique nickname, but Belal Muhammad probably has the simplest, yet strongest moniker that can make any fan do a double-take. He is nicknamed ‘Remember the Name,’ and the welterweight champion has a reason to choose this nickname. Other fighters have nickname that resembles their fighting style, their backstory, or their growth, but for Muhammad, it was completely a different scene.

Ahead of his first welterweight title defense, let’s get to know more about the unique moniker that he proudly wears like an emblem. So, without further ado, let’s get into the origins of Belal Muhammad’s ‘Remember the Name’ moniker.

Why is Belal Muhammad called ‘Remember The Name’?

The first and foremost reason for this nickname is that Muhammad wants to be remembered for his fighting style and iconic bouts. Apart from the action inside the cage, nicknames are another succinct way of getting the point across to the fans. Want fans to understand your mind? Name yourself something like ‘The Notorious’. Need something short but impactful? Keep the moniker, ‘The Eagle’.

Then there is Belal Muhammad, who makes Bruce Buffer call out his nickname, which sounds like a small request: ‘Remember The Name.’ He spoke about his creative choice with The Post a few years back, stating, “Ever since I started in amateur [MMA], it was hard for people to remember my name. For me, it was like, I want to have the fighting style and the personality where people remember the name, where they’re not gonna forget it.”

Muhammad, who has a record of 24-3-0, is facing Jack Della Maddalena to defend his welterweight title, and, just like his previous matches, he is going to remind fans about his name and identity. With every fight, it is easier for UFC buffs to remember his name and his prowess. He had talked about his nickname with Palestine in America in 2022. Muhammad explained the inspiration behind his nickname and said that he wanted his moniker to be simple and realistic.

He said, “You have some guys who always have some stupid nicknames like ‘crazy horse’ or something dumb. I didn’t want to come up with one of those. I wanted something real. I want to be remembered. I want people to remember the name. When my name is on the card, people are going to tune in because they know what type of fighter I am. They know I’m excited, and I’m going to bring a fight every single time.”

However, as the ritual goes on in the UFC, there is always some other fighter trash-talking about names and fighting styles to stir controversy. Similarly, Colby Covington commented on Muhammad after he won against Gilbert Burns at UFC 288.

UFC star mocked Belal Muhammad’s nickname

‘Chaos’ commented on Muhammad and his nickname after the latter won against Burns. He even gave ‘Remember The Name’ a new moniker! Colby Covington is notoriously known for his controversial comments and also his tendency to give new nicknames to fighters in the promotion. In a previous video clip, the interim champion spoke about the comments that Muhammad had made to him.

He said, “I earned this because of numbers, I earned this because of my accomplishment beating world champions after world champions, Hall of Famers after Hall of Famers. The fighter also ranted about the welterweight champion and gave him a new nickname: “I am here for a reason. Not because of the color of my skin like Belal, the r—-t. ‘Remember the Ra—t.’”

Covington also accused Muhammad of discriminating against him, as Muhammad had claimed that the 36-year-old had won his bout because of his skin color. ‘Remember The Name’ was not silent after this and had written on X, “Lawyers cant help u with what I will do to u in that cage”

Right now, Muhammad is concentrating on his battle against Jack Della Maddalena. What are your thoughts about Belal Muhammad’s moniker? Let us know in the comments below.
