The Golden State Warriors are cruising in the league. They boast an impressive 9-1 record in their last ten games! It’s safe to say the Dubs believe that a deep playoff run might just be on the cards. On Monday, they’ll put their four-game winning streak on the line against the Portland Trail Blazers. Warriors will be eyeing a fifth straight win while hosting the Trail Blazers at the Chase Center in San Francisco. However, they’ll be a bit short-handed while doing so. Yes, the Dubs won’t be at their full strength that’s because of the injuries in their roster.
The most notable absence will be of sophomore guard, Brandin Podziemski. The 22-year-old star will not participate in Monday’s encounter with Portland. This unfortunate news comes after he exited Saturday’s game within a minute due to lower back soreness. Podziemski’s injury comes at a very crucial time before this, he had two great games against New York and Charlotte. He scored 19 points in each matchup including a double-double against the Hornets. Not having Brandin Podziemski available will be a huge blow for the Dubs, as they cannot afford any slip-ups during the season.
The young guard’s absence on the court was felt big time during their recent win over the Pistons, where Golden State visibly needed some backup but couldn’t get any. However, there’s some mixed news regarding the guard’s injury. “I chatted with him briefly in the locker room. He just indicated it was fine. He wasn’t in the most terrific mood, but he wasn’t like noticeably limping or anything like that. So I don’t think it’s anything serious.” Stated Anthony Slater on the ‘Warriors Plus Minus‘ podcast’s recent episode. This statement has created a bit of confusion for the fans. It comes despite Podziemski not limping or requiring support was not in the best mood.

Well, the Dubs faithful can only hope his mood wasn’t great due to other reasons and not the injury. That’s because he’s been solid for the team this season averaging 10.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Moreover, when he’s not on the court the Warriors seem to struggle. They are 7-7 without Podziemski in the team this season, that speaks volumes! So, it still can be considered good news that it’s not a major injury or something to worry about. Apart from him, the Warriors are without Jonathan Kuminga. This will be the 31st game Golden State will play without him, as he recovers from an unfortunate ankle injury. Amid this Warriors HC, Steve Kerr has made a huge admission.
Warriors HC Steve Kerr on Jonathan Kuminga’s recovery
Jonathan Kuminga last suited up for the Warriors in January, when they defeated the Grizzlies 113-121. Since then, a disastrous ankle injury has kept the 22-year-old forward out of the court. While the arrival of Jimmy Butler, and solid performances from Gui Santos have not let the Dubs Nation miss Kuminga, as much. He still is quite a valuable player for the Dubs, especially with the playoffs just around the corner. So, what’s the update on Kuminga?
Well, the Warriors staff is not going to rush Kuminga’s recovery, only for him to get injured again. Head coach Steve Kerr also came clean on the matter while making a radio appearance recently. “No setback. The injury itself was more serious than anybody realized,” Kerr stated while speaking with 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs.“ As Kerr suggested there haven’t been any setbacks in recovery and the injury is just worse than they initially thought.
“And some of these things you just can’t predict. That’s one of the things I’ve learned during my time as a coach, working with Rick [Celebrini] and the performance staff. There’s no exact recipe for these injuries, and everybody heals differently.” He further added. Well, the Warriors HC seems to be taking his sweet time with the youngster’s rehab. However, Kuminga should come in handy once he makes a comeback, before the injury he was averaging 16.8, five rebounds, and two assists. So, the Warriors faithful will hope both Podziemski and Kuminga make a quick return as they continue their hunt for the championship.
