It does seem like Shohei Ohtani is a magnet for baseballs. While he’s getting plunked and fouling pitches off himself is common, he now seems to be attracting hits from the batsmen, too! Wednesday’s game between the Dodgers and Rockies witnessed something unusual about how Ohtani is becoming a ball magnet. While this incident seems hilarious, the Dodgers were just on the brink of their major loss this year.
The Dodgers took care of business against the Rockies, winning 6–2. Ohtani was looking happy with his home run and was having a light moment with Austin Barnes. Then the moment seemed short-lived when a foul by Betts came down crashing on the bench.
While the ball was an inch away from Ohtani, his reaction was priceless.

Remember Evan Longoria’s incident in 2021? During a Giants game, he was sitting in the dugout when a foul ball came screaming in and hit him in the shoulder. While he wasn’t seriously hurt, but had to miss time. It was a freak accident and reminded everyone that sometimes, even a bench cannot guard you.
Wednesday night was just on the verge of witnessing the same highlight reel.
Ah, those rare and hilarious moments when a foul ball finds its way into the dugout and smacks a player just trying to chill and relive the moment!
But now, you can take a chill pill, Dodgers fans. Nothing happened to Ohtani, as both he and Barnes had proactive reflexes and they swiftly reacted, seeing the ball incoming.
The Dodgers are currently cruising with a 14-6 record, after a beatdown by the Phillies, Nationals, and Cubs. So, missing Ohtani would have been too costly for the team. However, leaving past this incident, the game against the Rockies offered a glimpse of the power-flexing Dodgers.
