“We Love to…” Coco Gauff Gushes Over Glamorous Looks Celebrating Black History at the Met Gala

“Whether it’s box braids, twists, or my natural hair, it’s a form of self-expression that I’m really proud of, especially because you still don’t see it very often in our sport,” Coco Gauff said last month, shedding light on the beauty and pride behind Black hair. For Gauff, like many Black women, showcasing her beauty is more than style; it’s identity. From sporting beaded cornrows in honor of the Williams sisters to lighting up the Oscars in a radiant yellow Miu Miu gown, she proudly celebrates her Black heritage on and off the court. And, most recently, at the Met Gala, where fashion paid tribute to Black dandyism and culture, Gauff couldn’t hide her excitement, gushing over the dazzling looks that honored Black excellence once again. Wondering how she celebrates black success on the red carpet?

When attendees stepped onto the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala, they dazzled in bold, breathtaking ensembles that paid homage to Black style’s legacy, resistance, and cultural force. Held on May 5 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the world-renowned fundraiser united icons from art, business, politics, sports, and entertainment to support the Costume Institute. The 2025 theme, Tailored for You, honored the rich fashion narrative of the Black dandy, a tradition rooted in elegance, rebellion, and self-expression. A dress code echoing 18th-century dandyism, the night placed tailored menswear and suiting at center stage.

This year’s event went beyond glamour; it was a powerful reclamation of history. The accompanying Costume Institute Spring Exhibit, titled “Superfine: Tailoring for Black Style,” deepened that tribute.

And while the success of Black dandyism continues to flourish, Coco Gauff shares her pride and admiration for its rise, proudly standing in support of the movement and its message.

Just a couple of moments ago, Coco Gauff, who is in Italy to participate in the Italian Open, took to IG to share a series of stories, and one in particular stood out, a tribute to the celebration of Black Dandyism at this year’s Met Gala. The tennis sensation reposted a short TikTok video featuring several Black artists who made a striking appearance at the event. She captioned it with, “We love to see it,” expressing her pride and joy in the cultural moment. Among the standout figures in the video were the four Black men who served as co-chairs of the gala: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell, and A$AP Rocky. Their leadership symbolized a powerful shift in fashion representation.

The night also gave well-deserved recognition to Black designers, whose work took center stage alongside traditional, White-owned fashion houses. Names like Sergio Hudson, Charles Harbison, Christopher John Rogers, Grace Wales Bonner, and the late Virgil Abloh were spotlighted for their innovative craftsmanship.

The video also showcased Iconic stars, including Rihanna, Lizzo, Janelle Monáe, Lauryn Hill, Halle Berry, Cardi B, Usher, Tessa Thompson, and Tracee Ellis Ross graced the event, showcasing their support for Black Dandyism and helping infuse the evening with a spirit of empowerment and revival.

Meanwhile, another story on Gauff’s IG showed her completely stunned as she was left speechless after a surprise at the Italian Open.

Coco Gauff Stunned by Surprise Delivery of New Kits Ahead of Italian Open

The World No. 4 Coco Gauff has always stood out not only for her tennis talent but also for her distinct sense of fashion. Never one to shy away from expressing her individuality, the 9-time WTA singles winner has brought her unique style to red carpets and tennis courts alike. Earlier this year at the Oscars, she turned heads in a striking yellow gown by Miu Miu, subtly hinting at a collaboration with the luxury brand. Now, as she steps into the Italian Open following an impressive run to the Madrid Open final, where she narrowly lost to Aryna Sabalenka, Gauff is set to debut a special on-court look.

This year in Rome, Coco will sport a new kit designed by her apparel sponsor, New Balance (NB), in collaboration with Miu Miu. Known for shaking up the norms of tennis fashion, Gauff has emphasized how rare and exciting collaborations like this are within the sport. The partnership marks another bold step in her mission to bring high fashion to the court.

“The only time I can think of high fashion on the court was when Off-White partnered with Serena [Williams]. I know Fed[erer] had the Jordan shoe, but not a full outfit. Jannik Sinner has been carrying Gucci when he walks on court, but it’s not a collab,” She stated while talking to Vogue.

The tennis star shared her genuine surprise on IG, reacting to the delivery of her new gear. “lol my on court kits got delivered on a whole rack lol definitely a first!” she wrote in a story, clearly amused and amazed by the special treatment. The moment captured just how much her presence in the sport is evolving day by day, both in terms of performance and personal branding.

On the competition front, the 21-year-old enters the WTA 1000 event in Rome as the 4th seed and has earned a bye into the 2nd round. There, she’ll face either Italian wildcard Arianna Zucchini or a qualifier.

With momentum from Madrid behind her, do you think she will continue to dig deep and win the Italian Masters this time?
