‘What a Nightmare’: Golf Community Infuriated as PGA Tour Pro Fails to Improve His Slow Play Issue

You might as well start bringing picnic baskets to the PGA Tours 2025 because slow play has turned rounds into full-day outings. With the second month of the year, and the sixth tournament of the year, there has been a constant worry for the fans and the entire golf world regarding the pace of play. The worry has caused a huge drop in viewership for the PGA Tour. Now, after the slow play at Pebble Beach, Tom Kim is again caught with the flaw.

Earlier, The Sentry and American Express events saw a tremendous fall with 34% and 56% viewership, respectively. Due to the final round, the play was dramatically extended. However, with the second signature event of the year, the issue might seem to be addressed by the players as the first two rounds were played at a faster pace, as per match officials.

Now, just after getting on the upward run, the issue has yet again been raised by the fan. But this time, the fans have pointed out Tom Kim for his slow play. In round two, the golfer was seen surpassing the time limit multiple times. Notably, at the par 5 6th green, the golfer took 43 seconds to reach the approach shot and additionally took 23 seconds to hit the shot.

Tom Kim’s group (playing w/ Harman & Matsuyama) has been falling behind already today. Hope there are officials w/ stopwatches ready to pounce. Get real about enforcing pace of play. Those “on the list” should be treated on a “pre-crime” basis.

Fans expressing frustration over Tom Kim’s play

Slow play has been dragging its feet on the PGA Tour, frustrating players and fans alike. While rules exist, the PGA Tour seems to prefer a gentle tap over a heavy hand. After the high expectations set by AT&T Pebble Beach, fans again witnessing slow play have weaved a fresh comment thread of frustrations.

One fan wrote, “What a nightmare group.” Tom Kim was paired with Harman and Matsuyama in the second round. Out of the three, two players are already accused of being the slow players. Harman is accused of his pre-shot wiggle, which earlier was seen counted by fans. Another fan joined in by writing, “No joke, I’ve thought my TV had frozen on numerous occasions with Tomorrow Kim over the ball.” The fan doubting his TV to be frozen was a real incident!

More fans joined in jokingly, saying, “I love watching Tom Kim take 5 minutes to hit it OB too.” Fans joking about taking extra time to hit the out-of-bound area. Even in the Phoenix Open, a similar feat was observed where he was trying to hit from rough, but could only hit 2 footer shots. The PGA Tour shared the video of the shot with the caption, “Rough .”

Sharing on similar lines, one fan added facts, “What’s interesting about Kim and Harman. Both terribly slow. Harman with 15 waggles. Kim just stands still for 30 seconds.” Along with that, Harman, who is in the group with Scottie Scheffler in round 3 is also added for his slow play (wiggle much?).

Another netizen wrote, “Tom Kim should be getting stroked so hard he needs a change of pants. It’s every single week with this guy.” The frustrated fans are angry and want the golfer to get penalized for his consistent slow play. Can penalizing work? Share with us in the comments section below.
