His second year of college basketball demonstrated significant advancement when his performance delivered 15.9 points and 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game which landed him Second-Team All-Big 12 recognition.
McBride announced his entry into the NBA Draft during April 2021 through a trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder at position 36. McBride became an NBA draft selection by the Oklahoma City Thunder before the team traded him to the New York Knicks in the same round.
